Update at 4 p.m. ET: Hickox Remains In Isolation

"The patient remains isolated and under observation in a climate-controlled, indoor, extended care area in a building adjacent to the hospital," Newark's University Hospital says in an update on Hickox issued Sunday afternoon.

Saying that officials from the federal and state government continue to evaluate her condition, the hospital said a CDC team has visited the site.

"The patient has computer access, use of her cell phone, reading material (magazines, newspaper) and requested and has received take-out food and drink," hospital communications director Stacie Newton said.

Update at 2:35 p.m. ET: Nurse Hires Civil Rights Attorney

In a move that could open a new legal front in the debate over how the fight against Ebola is managed — and how people who have potentially been exposed to the disease are treated — Kaci Hickox has reportedly hired Norman Siegel, an attorney who specializes in civil and human rights cases involving the government. That news comes from J. David Goodman of The New York Times, who tweeted quotes from a conversation with Siegel Sunday afternoon.

"I asked her if she wanted this to be a test case," Siegel tells Goodman, "and she said yes."

The b**** should be grateful....they may be saving her life. Regardless....it's not about her.

As long as members of a CDC team are visiting her...she's gonna reap "0" from a lawsuit.

Think she has a real job....but not quite sure. Maybe Doctors without borders is just volunteers.???

From a little info from her mother, it kinda sounds like mom wants her to just shut up and think of others for a change.

They need to go and read about Typhoid Mary and what they had to do to her.

'nuff said.

So if they let her wander around and she infects somebody then I assume Norman wouldn’t mind if she gets her pants sued off.

Fits like a glove.

This is just a prelude to all the legal challenges that will be mounted against any State that tries to establish its own quarantine regimen, not to mention extended against the airlines & agencies attempting to impose a general flight ban from the hot-zone countries.

For a true pandemic, which this isn’t even close to being yet, is to be treated effectively using known public health measures, it requires that the traditional “civil rights” of American citizens be stomped all over.

Detention without trial for starters, and for that matter without even an accusation of wrongdoing.

However, I believe it’s fully constitutional, if you squint just a little. The Constitution authorizes Congress to suspend civil rights when in the case of invasion or insurrection the public safety requires it.

I think the entry of an organism capable of causing a pandemic into this country can be considered an invasion, and treated accordingly. The public safety would certainly require it.

She says she tested negative, but when was the test, and how reliable is it? Doesn’t she care whether she might spread the disease to others?

I must say that my dentist 10 years ago was a Doctor without Borders volunteer. Oh, how I thought he was amazing - until all my teeth broke because he offed his work to his silly dentist (female) assistant. Ladies: never go to a female dentist or a dentist without borders! Take it from me.

You ain't nobody if you ain't a victim. This is so unAmerican. Of course it could have been handled better but when you're the first of anything, you're the guinea (pun intended) pig. I'm sure she wasn't the least big cooperative and I'm sure that there was a lot of down time for her. It could have been worse, she could have Ebola and then I'll bet she'd be singing a different tune.

Sorry, I just needed to get this off my chest. I am soooo tired of all the whining.

The thing is what exactly are these doctors doing when it comes to Ebola? There is no cure so what are they doing? Handing out cough drops? So far it seems the only way to “cure” it is to use intravenous fluids and blood transfusions from someone who successfully beat it. So are they doing this with all 14,000 infected people?
