Colloidal silver and other Ebola scams: 'Fear opens wallets and closes minds'
The Manchester Guardian ^ | October 24, 2014 | Nicky Woolf in New York

In a game of cat and mouse with health and safety officials, Americans profit off panic with modern versions of snake oil treatments, like vitamins branded ‘Ebola-C’

First of all, Steve Barwick wants you to know that Ebola is a government conspiracy.

“This current ‘Ebola crisis’ is … a massive psy-ops campaign,” he wrote in an (undated) blogpost on his website, The Silver Edge. “In other words, the threat is largely being manufactured and planted into the minds of the American public, through the federal government/news media axis.”

Barwick, to his credit, points out correctly that the likelihood of coming in contact with an Ebola victim is “about zero”. But that doesn’t stop him from quickly moving on to the hard sell.

“Back in 2008, the US Department of Defense (DOD), in conjunction with several other federal agencies, quietly conducted clinical research into the use of silver nanoparticles against Ebola and other hemorrhagic fever viruses,” he claims. “And what they found was astonishing. They discovered that silver nanoparticles were highly effective against these deadly viruses, including the Ebola virus.”

Of course, silver nanoparticles are not highly effective against Ebola – they are not effective at all. Nor is homeopathic rattesnake venom, or oil extracted from sandalwood or cinnamon bark. Nor is vitamin C, in any way other than being simply part of a healthy diet.

But all of the above have been, and are still being sold, both implicitly and explicitly, as preventative measures for Ebola in the US....

It was very informative. Thank you.

I recently discovered physiology, biochemistry. When I was in high school in the '50s biology was cutting some poor frog apart. I didn't take the course.

Now I'm viewing college lectures on-line and doing Internet research.

I am amazed to see how complex most cells are. It is the cells that are alive and doing the work -- at least most of the tens of trillions of cells are living cells.

Getting that understanding helped me lose 45 pounds, pay more attention to exercising to regain some muscle now that I have an idea of how it really works.

If FReepers are interested Prof. Steven Fink's many lectures are very popular. I had not heard of Prof. Fink but his free youtube lectures are very popular. A basic understanding of chemistry is just about all that is required. Start with cell respiration -- how cells make energy to power themselves and why we breathe and eat. Physiology, biochemistry, and such may help people realize that they do not need most of those drugs being hawked.

Has anyone actually given nano-silver to Ebola patients? The DoD study said it didn’t do anything to Ebola directly, or prevent Ebola from entering cells, but it DID inhibit Ebola replication within cells.

Please provide a link to your “2010 study”. I would be interested in reading it. And I would like to know why it seems to contradict so many others.

In your quest for optimal health and disease prevention, do not underestimate the balancing effects of the B-complex vitamins, magnesium, the sulfur and nitrogen containing amino acids, like those found in whey protein and L-taurine. L-taurine, is arguably more protective to the heart than CoQ10. These mentioned, ironically, are widely deficient in many men and women and are not tested for in a routine blood test. True prevention would include proper testing, not waiting for symptoms to substantiate a need for such a test. Lastly, sulfur is a huge mediator in cell respiration and detoxification, suffice to say, it is practically non existent in the modern diet and our over trucked and stored food supply.

I had to go looking for sulfur. I think I'm OK if I understood the sources I found

Brussels sprouts, garlic ✔, onions ✔, asparagus, legumes ✔, kale✔ and wheat germ. However, as the sulfur content of soil influences sulfur concentrations in plants, these foods can vary greatly in their MSM content. Foods that come from animal sources are more reliable in their MSM contents, including eggs✔, meat✔, poultry✔, fish✔ and milk✔.

Major Sources of Dietary Sulfur

Throw in romaine lettuce, tomatoes, spinach and I've eaten literally over a ton over the past ten years with almost zero other sources.

I do not want to over emphasize however.. how many times have we heard "He died? He never had a sick day in his whole life . . . ."

Plus vitamins and supplements. I won't mention the brands that'd be advertising but I checked carefully and one in particular is a MLM brand represented by a friend of mine that's provided excellent results for me. The others are OTC.

If you are talking about MSM. Just make sure itis Opti-MSM or Linguisil. They are not brands, but the purist raw ingredients choices.

Keep it up! Taking responsible for your health and following through with prudent action is very rewarding, not only for yourself, your family, but for the rest of us. Too bad too few believe the latter.

Do not forget the power of Beets, Red Palm Oil, Coconut Oil and Raw dairy.

Take care!

Silver sulfadiazine is slightly effective, due to the sulfadiazine, but it is not colloidal silver.

The following articles should get you started:

Oh boy, here come the hawkers of colloidal silver.

Well, chronic ingestion does have a great side-effect if it's your life's desire to look like a Smurf...

And the hawkers of colloidal silver also claim it will cure arthritis and AIDS and just about anything and everything. But in the end all it will do is turn you into….

Real-life 'Blue Man' dies after heart attack, stroke

The man who shot to Internet fame several years ago after appearing on TODAY to discuss a condition that permanently turned his skin a deep blue has died.

Paul Karason was 62 when he passed away Monday in a Washington hospital, where he was admitted last week after suffering a heart attack. He also had pneumonia and later suffered a severe stroke, his estranged wife, Jo Anna Karason, said Tuesday.

A cause of death was not immediately known, but Paul Karason had suffered heart problems for years, she said.

Karason started turning blue about 15 years ago after he began using a special silver-based preparation to treat a skin condition. He also had been drinking colloidal silver, a product consisting of silver particles suspended in liquid.

I used Curad’s Silver Chloride ointment on spider bites: the lesions were, with necrotic tissue removed, about 1/16 inch deep and up to the diameter of a quarter (dermis gone). The silver chloride ointment immediately stopped the sensation of having a cigarette put out on the wound site, and after three months, the last of about 20 of these bites (from the size of a pencil eraser to a quarter) had healed without infection in any. I’d recommend it for topical application.

IIRC, he made his own colloidal silver, at a concentration far beyond what is normally available—which is why he turned blue. Too much is too much, whatever it is.

collodial silver is a scam on its face....the claims made for it are inherently ridiculous....plus it is contraindicated for lengthy ingestion

But it *does* have the benefit of turning people into smurfs!

Gold is pretty...Silver can kill more than 650 human pathogens....

Gold supply is saved....Most of the Silver ever mined has been used up.

Gold is 1200$......Silver is 17$
