OCTOBER 22, 2014 Football Coach Fired Because Eating Watermelon Is Racist Parents from other schools felt smashing a watermelon and eating it after games was inappropriate. By Katherine Timpf
A winning high-school football coach was fired after the teams tradition of eating watermelon after games was deemed inappropriate and racist.
Bud Walpole had been coaching Academic Magnet Raptors football team, and was in the middle of a very successful season, according to CBS Charlotte.
A current Raptors player said the tradition began when players bought watermelons from a man who had been selling them on their route to the game. If they won the game, the team decided, they would eat the watermelon. After they did win, they smashed the watermelon on the ground and then ate it. (The team had to smash their victory fruit because they, understandably, did not have a knife on the sidelines.)

This story reads like a scene from the movie, “Idiocracy”. Very funny movie, BTW.
It took 44 posts? We’re slipping again.
What if they served Macaroni and cheese at a team function? Would that cause an uproar?
Anything else we could add to the kid’s get up? I can’t think of anything. He has it all covered!!!
Blacks need to get over themselves.
We eats fried chicken too!
If it was good enough for “Our Gang’s” Farina, it’s good enough for me.
If he doesn’t get fired, he must have pics of Foley and Machen with kids.
forwarded story to Watermelon Growers Board (watermelon.org).
Watermelons are great sources of trace minerals like potassium and magnesium. Gatoraide - with seeds.
And to think, we are self admitted porch monkeys!
Still has to go a way to top this great moment in lib history. A few years ago there was a public outcry that the North Charleston High School basketball team had a white head coach. Protestors wanted a black head coach, nothing else would do. Even taking his team to state and winning it all couldn’t shut the morons up. A local AD at another school took notice and offered the coach a better job. He’s taken his team to the state finals the last couple of seasons but didn’t win it all. At least the team is doing much better than before he got there.
What happened to North Charleston? Well they got their black head coach and never have to worry about the playoffs for a while. They’ve been sitting at home the last couple of seasons during the playoffs in a system where a team can have a losing record and still get in. They’re that bad. But at least the permanently outraged crowd got their wish so that’s all that matters. This school is only about a mile away from Academic Magnet.
True that!
A Work of Art in a different time.
Why isn’t wearing cotton clothing raciss? Or is that next?
Whats next eating bratwurst, baked beans and potato salad become racist too? Come now eating watermelon is racist. This is absolutely positively Nuts. Wait nuts are racist probably too!
Take your sane-ist comments to another forum.
I think I saw the boss eat some dat watermelon last weekend LOL

Anyone visited a Church's Fried Chicken lately and noted the ethnic composition of both the clientele and the staff?
BTW, Mrs. BN and I were able to cross an item off of her "bucket list" last weekend by having supper at Paula Deen's restaurant in Savannah. The entire visible staff was black (correction: we did see one white busboy), very competent, articulate and friendly. They seem to be enduring Paula's "racist oppression" very well!
In contrast to Madison Avenue's propensity to populate their commercials with very light skinned "black people", the restaurant staff were all quite dark, like sub-Saharan Africans. I really wanted to ask if they were of Gullah/Geechee ancestry.
(note: having lived in Africa for a number of years, I try to guess the 'tribal' ethnicity of Africans, Europeans, Orientals, South Asians, etc. Skin color, facial shape, height, hair, tribal scars, shoe styles are all clues)
I, myself, am a colored person....sorta pinkish tan, and a bit of a redskin in the summertime. I do like watermelon AND fried chicken!
