Fact: A conservative Reagan type hasn’t touched the White House in 26 years
Fact: The electorate has shifted and Reagan today would not have seen the White House
Fact: I have voted for the primary winning Republican every time
Fact: my vote for the primary winning Republican guarunteed Odumbo wouldn’t see office
Fact: your continual protests to not vote Republican guaruntees a counter to my vote.
Fact: I can thank you for the shambles we are in and placing our present occupant in office
Fact: I think strategically long term...Purists think he in the now and lose every time short term
how
Small yes I didn’t say not large enough to sway an election, which is the point this entire thread has been making.
Elections have consequences and we have been living the reality of 2008 and 2012 where the small minority chose to vote poorly or not vote at all.
Demographics is destiny.
I would guess that most of the FR purists have a posting history that looks just like yours.
Lamenting that the country is lost and how only SHTF can straighten things out on one thread, then lecturing us on political strategy on the next.
You can take some solace in the fact that you’re not alone in your nitwittery.
Well what do you call pretending liberalism is conservative? I say childish. Ergo, if one mans up he leaves childish things behind.
They are working in a very hostile environment - the media burying them at every turn. I know: either you are principled or you are not, but that is easy said than done.
I still think humans are weak. Congressmen are humans. They are influenced and slowly drift to the left, especially if they don’t get the votes from their own constituents. We keep letting the Dems elected either intentionally or otherwise. We are contributing to the current Dem majority and control. Once they are in control, it is even harder for any Rep, principled or not, to fight them. If they are always the minority due to our own actions, they are more apt to become more like the dems, and we don’t shoulder some of the blames, rather we just blame them and not do anything to help.
The GOPe has shown itself to be liberal. I don’t think they have gone all the way to ‘progressive’ yet, because I see ‘progressivism’ to be a direct heir of Stalinism. Liberalism, though, is also a terrible disease, and I wouldn’t ever trust a liberal with my government.
Fact, your long term strategy resulted in a GOP that just said that voting for them means amnesty.
They may or may not spend eternity in hell, but if we fall for your approach, they certainly will in Washington.
I wuv you too woogums. No go help pass Amnesty...no matter what. There are plenty of healthy kids out there that need diseases.
I'm going to paraphrase this conversation from the top.
I categorized republicans who turn liberal (Specter, Crist, numerous others) as "spineless conservatives." And, I said that spineless conservatives ought to be removed from office.
And your rebuttal is that we (I assume you mean conservatives) will have a real congressional majority after that.
Well, no. The only way to have a congressional majority of conservatives is to elect conservatives to congress, until they number in the majority. That becomes impossible if either no conservative is running, or if the general public rejects conservative principles.
I am not buying a contention that a Republican majority results in a constitution-abiding/conservative Congress.
Hell, Washington....what's the difference?
We purists are willing to go down to 80% of what we want. How low is acceptable to you before we are no longer conservative at all?
Yup...a flawed immigration policy will do that...the effective dumbing down of the population is almost complete :-)
He governed as a liberal, IMO.
And both parties were complicit.
It's at the point where shifting the party in power is akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Dan you have the post of the day and have expressed what many on our side has been unable to do succinctly...thank you
Just wanted to point out that about 200 posts in, not one GOP supporter, including the OP, will address the fact that the GOP promised Amnesty in exchange for gaining power this election.
We were chipping away with Reagan, but Reagan himself made the fatal mistake, having Bush for his VP. The chipping away ended when he left office.
