Reid rejects Ebola travel ban proposal

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Friday rejected a call for travel bans from Ebola-ravaged West Africa, suggesting that it was too early for such a move.

“We have a lot of people in Sierra Leone and in places like Liberia who are dual citizens,” the Nevada Democrat said in Henderson. “If there was a ban they would just fly to smaller countries before coming here.”

House Republicans had called for such a travel ban at a congressional hearing Thursday. President Barack Obama rejected the proposal on Friday.

Reid also backed the Obama administration’s approach to the deadly, expressing faith in just-appointed Ebola Czar Ron Klain’s ability to do an “outstanding job” combating the fast-moving disease.

“We have a lot of people in Sierra Leone and in places like Liberia who are dual citizens,”

Has the U.S. started recognizing dual citizenship?

“If there was a ban they would just fly to smaller countries before coming here”

If only there were some way to tell where people have come from and the countries they have visited lately. Maybe an official document that all peoples must carry if they want to travel internationally....

As you have to enter another country through a port or airPORT, perhaps call that required travel document a .....PASSPORT!

No worries for me, Rev. Farrakhan says it won’t kill white people.

Real genius...

These people have things called “passports” and require an American “visa” to enter this country...

It doesn’t matter what country they pass through on their way here... We know where they came from when they fly in due to the require documentation passing through customs.

The southern border is an entirely different issue.

Harry Reid is concerned about global warming, but relatively unconcerned about potential major problems with the spread of ebola.

What is wrong with this picture?

Oh, come on people, why are you even worried about a travel ban? That is so 10/16! You are WAY behind the curve, as is Harry Reid.

You see, Resident Bozo Insane Obola is now apparently planning to bring African Ebola victims to the U.S. for treatment. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/watchdog-obama-to-bring-non-american-ebola-victims-to-u.s.-for-treatment/article/2554956#!

It isn’t enough that we got at least one because we weren’t ready for it (and because the SOB lied to get in), and who succeeded in spreading it to at least 2 others (and they to God only knows how many more). No, that just didn’t make the cut.

It isn’t even enough that we’re letting in AT LEAST 150 West Africans per day (which, if 5% of those have it and there is only a 10% failure-to-detect rate means between 5 and 6 Ebola patients imported PER WEEK). No, that’s way too inexact and speculative, which is to say, too slow - and that’s a FAIL.

Nope, those methods are JUST TOO PHUCKING SLOW for Lucifer’s favorite minion, so now we’re just going to import 100% guaranteed Ebola hosts, wholesale, and let our medical system try to deal with them.

WHAT. THE. PHUCK.

Let’s see how that works out - I predict just as wholesale resignations from any treatment facilities “lucky” enough to be chosen by Obola.

I guess that you can probably figure out where the request of 2/3 of the American people that Obola ban flights for West Africans is going to get shoved, with extra Ghost Pepper sauce just for fun.

Yeah, because waiting to disintegrate ISIS has worked so well.

it doesn’t matter if they ‘fly to smaller countries’ first - the exit stamp from SL or Li, etc. is still on the passport. I’m sure one of the infected nurses would love for Reid to go hold her hand - wearing street clothes only - seeing he’s so confident and all.

Exactly. Harry Reid not only puts politics ahead of Americans’ safety, he also is so ignorant, IN HIS SEVENTIES, that he does not know about passport stamps (and their electronic equivalent for many advanced nations).

Hope he and a bunch of his ilk catch it and die a slow agonizing death from it..even with the best of their “exempt” healthcare can provide.
The sooner this traitorous, American-hating, communist POS gets to room temperature and commences to rotting, the safer America will be.

If these b@$t@rds don’t kill a significant fraction of the population, they’ll get reelected.

I’m a member of the “indigenous population” (at least on my mom’s side), I don’t want to get Ebola any more than any other sane American does. The sooner we shut down the borders the better.

Also, Europeans did get diseases from the American Indians, though the effects weren’t equal in magnitude. The most prominent example of a disease crossing from indigenous peoples to Europeans is syphilis. Indians are mostly immune, but people of European descent aren’t.

Coming from a mixed race background, I have no idea whether I personally have an immunity to syphilis or not, but I’m not too eager to find out.

"I fully understand the statistics, and that they may need to be revised for different strains of virus...
...I’m not wedded to the 21 days, but I don’t know if doubling the time for the extra 3% of safety is doable from a behavioral and societal point of view."

If you dont quarantine the disease, it will burn itself out after it runs out of victims.
I don't like the idea of a 42 day quarantine either, but based on the information we have now it seems to make sense.
This generation on the earth has never faced a pandemic before, but I prefer to error on the side of COMMON SENSE rather than depend on RISK . The Spanish Flu killed 3% of the worlds population , yet it was enough to end WW I , and that was a pandemic.

Last time I checked, which wasn’t long ago, your passport/visa is stamped with whatever countries you have traveled to/from. It isn’t hard to discern which ones have been in Liberia, Siera Leone, etc.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t they stamp your passport when you are entering or leaving a country? All officials would have to do is look at the stamp or is that too difficult?

Even then they'd get reelected. The dead overwhelmingly vote Democrat.

That’s why you cancel visas and passports, idiot.

Oh, and the idea of getting “payback” for a disease that was accidentally brought here is absurd, so is the idea that Indians were deliberately exposed to smallpox in order to wipe us out. The history of what happened to the American Indian is sad enough without trying to turn anyone and everyone with white skin into a villain.
