Fomosa (Taiwan) is neither savage nor war-ridden now. It is a society with its share of problems, but they are the problems of a peaceful liberal democracy. They, South Korea, and Japan have built some of the most peaceful societies in world history.
Of course, that may be due to the external peace provided by the US military umbrella.

Also from Paul James at Facebook.
" It was right-hand drive because, for the prototype, Russell used a British MG Chassis. If the project had gone ahead it would have been switched to left-hand drive."

You can have the “Gadabout” (page 12 NYT (inspiration for the notoriously ugly Rambler?)), I’ll take the Jeep (page 6 NYT).

The Gadabout (page 12 NYT) - inspiration for the notoriously ugly Rambler?
Seems to me the 30’s was the zenith of good taste - elegant car design as well as clothes. Seems like elegant style went downhill after that.

The Egads and its cousin the Omigod were just proto-types, goodness that thing is ugly. But except for the front end, I guess they were predicting smaller cars? Way too early.
The experience through out the war was gas shortages......

Except, of course, some of those frauleins who looked a bit like a Sherman tank and could probably roll over you like one too...

Yes, the oft-overlooked FPRBT measurement - have no idea what it was for the “Gadabout.”

The Gadabout (page 12 NYT) - inspiration for the notoriously ugly Rambler?Reminded me more of a Studebaker. I thought of the Avanti first, but it looks a lot like the 1953 Commander. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4d/1953_Studebaker_Commander.jpg/220px-1953_Studebaker_Commander.jpg

Some tanks are better than others, and can roll over me any time.

Hey, I thought we were supposed to use this forum to get an appreciation of other cultures. I have an appreciation for German culture. Speaking which, the one on the far left does remind me of my German Culture professor from back in the day.

You have your Canberras mixed up.
The Aussie cruiser Canberra was sunk off Guadalcanal/Savo Island in 1942.
Nimitz’ dispatch concerned the USS Canberra, CA-70.
