Rand Paul, Ted Cruz Differ on Gay Marriage and Military

Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Ted Cruz of Texas share a desire to run for president in 2016, but this week the Republicans differed on an issue of importance to the conservative base — gay marriage.

During a recent visit to South Carolina's College of Charleston, Paul told CNN that "people change their minds all the time" on the issue of gay marriage.

“The bottom line is, I’m old fashioned, and I’m a traditionalist. I believe in old-fashioned traditional marriage. But, I don’t really think the government needs to be too involved with this, and I think that the Republican Party can have people on both sides of the issue," he said.

Paul's comments were in stark contrast to those made by Cruz following the Supreme Court's decision not to address gay marriage during the high court's new term.

“The Supreme Court’s decision to let rulings by lower court judges stand that redefine marriage is both tragic and indefensible," said Cruz in a statement. "By refusing to rule if the states can define marriage, the Supreme Court is abdicating its duty to uphold the Constitution.”

Libertarianism is giving free legalization to drugs and where does that lead to... untraditional marriage agenda which that will destroy society ...
Stupid man he is / advocating 2 males or females being married is ok. Then that leads to rights of children being triumphed for this unnatural behavior. They don’t get the consequences of doing whatever you want, just do it. Rand Paul is on the wrong side. If any man is for this, they must have gay tendencies themselves.

Neither the federal government OR the states are free to define or redefine marriage. Marriage is what God made it, in the beginning. Period.

All levels of government, in all their branches, have an absolute OBLIGATION to conform to the laws of nature and nature’s God.

Paul is so far off he’s not on the same planet.

And I think Cruz is making a mistake as well in not being clear that the states do not have any legitimate right to legalize or regularize so-called “gay marriage.”

RP is the GOP-e Eddie Haskell. He'll say whatever he thinks he needs to say to advance his own position. His so-called personal belief in traditional marriage sounds just like any liberal's weasel words about abortion---"I'm personally pro-life, but..."

But, I don’t really think the government needs to be too involved with this

So then then why are the courts forcing everybody and every State to acknowledge sodomy as a legitimate and specially protected sacrament and right? What happened to States rights Rand? The States are good enough to decide when babies get sacrificed but they have to kiss the sodomites asses?

Looks like “Rubber-Spine” Rand is at it again,

It's not his spine, it's his head.

“don’t think the government needs to be too involved in this”

he says that because he is OKAY with federal courts forcing sodomy marriage on the states.

legalization to drugs and where does that lead to...

The same place legalization of the drug alcohol led to: individual liberty for the law-abiding, and reduced profits for criminals.

You can follow me all over this blog that you desire to (as you have been doing), with your selfish, I want to smoke my weed so the government cannot charge you for anything, as your comeback but you are not getting nowhere with my beliefs.

We haven't exchanged posts since August 28 - and that exchange began with you addressing me.

with your selfish, I want to smoke my weed

I don't smoke weed and don't want to smoke weed - I want criminals to no longer profit handsomely from those who do smoke weed, which profit is the primary effect of marijuana criminalization.

so the government cannot charge you for anything, as your comeback but you are not getting nowhere with my beliefs.

You asked a question, I posted an answer for all of FR to read.

Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, and numerous other sellouts are proof that conservatives need to look at a candidate’s background and record instead of blindly falling all over themselves to endorse whichever person in the primary screams “TEA PARTY!!!!!!” the loudest.

Alas, this lesson has fallen on deaf ears. Look at all the fools who wanted to give Liz Cheney a seat in the Senate last year.

We sure dodged a bullet with that Liz tea party feint, I believe she intended to be a huge destructive force against conservatism.

I agree. Had she been elected to the Senate, her supporters in the neo-con Cheney wing of the party would have started drumming up support to give her the veep slot on a Presidential ticket, saying she was a "natural choice" since she learned the ropes from dear old dad. Rand Paul's supporters in the Ron Paul wing of the GOP did the same thing once they got Ron's kid elected as their tea party savior.

There's also a good chance she would have blown the general election and the Dems would take the Senate with Dave Freudenthal being elected from Wyoming.

Either way, we would have gotten royally screwed with her as the nominee.
