Fox ^ | October 7, 2014 | Gary Gestelu

U.S. Special Forces will soon be riding into battle in a race-bred truck.

The Polaris DAGOR is a compact military machine that uses a trophy truck-style suspension for extreme off-road capability and was developed in partnership with Roush Industries of NASCAR fame.

The purpose-built military machine is about the size of a four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, but can fit up to nine warfighters onboard: four in the cabin, four in the bed, and a roof gunner positioned in a sling seat suspended from the roll cage.

The 4,500-pound vehicle is powered by a diesel engine of unspecified origin, has a range of 500 miles and can haul up to 3,250 pounds. It's long-travel suspension features Fox off-road shocks.

Oh, I see. So they can trigger the embedded IED that much faster. Question: Does anyone know if there is the feasibility of some sort of radar like device that could detect IEDs in the road ahead? Couldn't they create a stripped down radar device like the ones used in fighters? It might be expensive but would be cheaper than the casualties plus the lost vehicle.

One of these would be useful in taming my driveway.

I believe you’d want to avoid the main roads or drive off road as much as possible.

I refuse to visualize the dignified men and women of our armed forces having slap-fights for the swing seat.

But they will. Oh, yes, because I sure as heck would have.

On second thought, this machine would be scared of my driveway.

That makes sense. Unless you are in the dessert or maybe the steppes, there probably are still choke points where you have to drive. Still, staying off the roads sure sounds right.

My Father was in the combat engineers in WWII and according to their history, they once dug 18 mines out of a 6 yard square piece of ground. I guess the Germans considered it a good location for a mine.

They are going to have UAVs to do that. Look down capability and all that.

"Warfighters?" What the heck are "warfighters?" I know what "soldiers" are. (And in fact know quite a few "soldiers.") I even know what "G.I.s" were, and am proud to claim quite a few "devil dogs" in my lineage.

But...warfighters?!?! Are they like, "military persons?"

Detect sure, but then you are in the kill zone for command detonated devices.

IED and RPG magnet. No armor. Open doors and windows. Bullet magnet. Pity the poor souls that ride that hearse.

Maybe Pvt. Von Schtuup was told he'd get his break after he buried his 18 mines and he just stuck the suckers down as fast he could.

warfighters

Pentagon jargon for service members at or near the tip of the spear.

Kind of cool but kind of ugly. But still, I suspect they could sell all they could make to the public if they could get doors, operable windows and some modern conveniences in a street legal version for under $50k.

warfighters
Term for all the TG’s and Lezbo’s in today’s Army. Sort of ambiguous, like the junk in the trunk of these freaks.

Either that or the German soldier that was detailed to plant the mines buried them in one small area so he could knock off early.
