It came without warning. It would start with a howling noise from a senior football player at Sayreville War Memorial High School, and then the locker room lights were abruptly shut off. In the darkness, a freshman football player would be pinned to the locker-room floor, his arms and feet held down by multiple upperclassmen. Then, the victim would be lifted to his feet while a finger was forced into his rectum. Sometimes, the same finger was then shoved into the freshman player’s mouth. This disturbing hazing within the storied Sayreville football program, as told to NJ Advance Media on Wednesday by the parent of a player in the program, happened almost every day in the locker room this fall, he said. The allegations — for the first time — provide details to the events that sparked a criminal investigation by local and county police, and prompted the cancellation of the remainder of the Sayreville football season this week by Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe. The parent, informed by his son and other parents close to the investigation, is the first to come forward to reveal the hazing practices Labbe has characterized as “incidences of harassment, intimidation and bullying as constituted by the definition within the anti-bullying statute that took place on a pervasive level, on a wide-scale level, and at a level in which the players knew, tolerated, and in general accepted.” According to the parent, whose identity is being protected because the parent feared retribution against the family and the player, the routine was initiated when an upperclassman would enter the locker room and make a wolf call or howling noise.

But it could also be a sadistic straight kid who just likes to humiliate smaller, weaker victims, and would do it to a girl as readily as to a boy.
One of the assistant coaches of this team was arrested last week after he was pulled over by the police and caught with steroids and hypodermic needles in his car.
I don't think I'm going out on a limb here if I suggest that the entire football program in that school is a criminal enterprise -- and many of the parents are either complicit parties or willfully ignorant about it.
I don’t care what form of hazing, at the end of the day, it is bullying by the powerful on the powerless, and worse, it feeds into becoming a “tradition” that makes the people who were bullied/hazed become the bulliers. I can’t imagine the mental anguish/guilt those people would have later in life when they figure out the nature of what they did when they were in school.

The appeal of wrestling has always been a mystery to me. I mean, who wants to be grappling with a sweaty, stinky, half-naked male?
Every time I read about a Columbine-type incident I find myself wondering if there was some depravity like this in the past that played a role in the perpetrator’s decision to light up a school building with gunfire.
I think rape constitutes reason enough to cancel the football season. Alternatively, if they find the ones who did it, they could just kick the guilty off the team...but then there may not be enough players to put a team up. I hope they get prosecuted. Homo rape is not alright. May have some 18 and they should be tried for rape of a minor as adults.
I don’t understand wrestling either. Especially after figuring out that “professional” wrestling is two fat, sweaty men in bikinis fighting over a belt and purse.

That’s not hazing; that’s rape. And every one of those non-freshman players better get a damn good lawyer unless they want to be sent to prison where they can enjoy that little “game” for a good long time.

I’m disgusted by this story. I despise bullies and others who consciously plan to cause harm to others.
Having said that, I think you’re a real creep for making the comment that you did. You don’t need to label an entire town of generations of decent, hard-working people. My father, uncles, aunts, cousins graduated from that school. Yes, it’s a town mostly colored with liberals. But retarded inbreds? Don’t you think that was out of line?
