When the Syrian Army loyal to Assad, and the Shabiha militia, are the main opposition forces on the ground to the ISIS in Syria, what sense does this make?

Because Turkey will come in whole hog if we go after Assad. And don't forget that cooperating with Assad is a betrayal of Israel.

The Wall Street Journal is profoundly pro-mulsim and anti-christian to an a idiotic degree. For example...
Christians here began to pillage Muslim homes... thousands of Christians ran into the emptied Muslim neighborhood, ripping doors and windows from the local mosque... Several bludgeoned a kitten found under the local imam's house "because it's a Muslim cat," as one explained.

They came to the camp hoping African Union troops would protect them and eventually provide them a ride north. While they waited, they endured torment from the Christians who surround the neighborhood. Three nights ago, assailants tossed a grenade into a garden here near where 13 children—their mother and father recently killed—slept,

~That’s like saying to defeat Hitler, remove Stalin.~

Yep, funny. Liberal propaganda looks more like ‘1984’ each day.

Russia has major stake in Assad's survival.

Obama seems to have a major stake in Assad's overthrow and installing a de facto ISIS government into power in Syria.

If we push to overthrow Assad, we come into open conflict with Putin and Russia. Ordinarily, Putin would not dare to threaten the US , but with a weak, military hating Obama in charge, all bets are off.

Since we can kick Russia's ass anytime any place in a conventional war, Putin's only hand is play nuclear brinkmanship which is a dangerous game. Very bad scenario and with a military/foreign policy incompetent like Obama calling the shots who knows how badly things could spin out of control.

If Assad is overthrown, then Obama installs ISIS (with an obvious name change to a “moderate” group of Islamic George Washington's) as the new Syrian government. I really, really hate Assad and would love to see him gone, but he is by far the lesser of all other possible evils. Just ask the Libyans and the Iraqis

Assad is a mass murderer and he has the support of Iran and Hezbollah’s Islamic terrorists.

Removing him won’t work because the Syrians need a dictator to keep their innate savage nature in check. That’s the way it is in the Arab World.

Arab dictators are not beloved by their people but they’re the only thin line between stability and chaos.

Once again. Obama is using this as an excuse to complete his failed policy of taking out Assad and replace the governments of the ME with Muslim Brotherhood and or their affiliates. If the Assad regime can withstand 3 years of fighting and still have enough support to defeat ISIS then I say let him. He is no good guy but he is a better guy than ISIS and other faiths have been able to live in “relative” security under his regime.

Amen.

Assad is the only thing between Syria becoming part of the Caliphate, and Obama wanted to oust him last year and armed the rebels (Muslim Brotherhood), who many went on to join ISIS. Some people just don’t get it do they?

It wasn’t Assad using chemical weapons against his people it was the rebels that we were arming. Assad is evil but this is like Gadaffi in Libya, they just can’t seem to see that sometimes a lesser evil is protecting you from the BIG EVIL that you can’t handle at that moment.

Syria has ceased to exist, it’s turned into Lebanon. Kurdistan needs to be recognized as a new nation and US ally.

Or like saying imposing travel restrictions would only lead to the spread of Ebola.

Assad is the only thing between ISIS and the Med. This is unreal....the globalist club is STILL on their domination thing, even while civilization faces annihilation.

And supposed 'conservatives' are whining about the dreaded 'military industrial complex'.

It makes very little sense to me, for several reasons:

-Assad is an SOB like his father, no question. He also has aided and abetted terrorism, no question. But he’s also the head of a sovereign state that has been mostly stable for most of its modern era. Syria isn’t suddenly going to bloom into a western style democracy if Assad is overthrown. We tried that in Libya, and look what happened there. Instead of ending the conflict, the fighting will very likely become bloodier and more widespread, with anarchy and power struggles everywhere.

-There is also the issue of Syrian Christians, as another poster has pointed out. As terrible as he is on many fronts, Assad has indeed protected the life and limb of many Syrian Christians, something I doubt will continue if he is removed.

-Taking out Assad isn’t going to be as easy as these guys seem to think. Syria has an army on par with Saddam Hussein’s on the eve of Desert Storm, only with more modern equipment. Assuming his forces remain loyal, it’s going to take a lot of time, money, and manpower to grind his forces down. Where are we going to get any of that?

-Moscow ain’t gonna like this. McCain and Graham seem to forget that Moscow and Damascus have close ties going back to the 1960s (if not earlier). I somehow doubt Putin is going to stand by idly if the U.S. declares formal war on the guy in charge of their closest ally in the region.
