As a kid, watching Carter on television, I thought he was arrogant. That was my uniformed gut viewpoint. Arrogance and narcissism are often linked, and I’m convinced now that he is a narcissist. He hasn’t gone away from the public spotlight and progressed to more mature things, but has persisted as a political celebrity - because he needs it.

That he’s still speaking about Reagan clearly indicates that he’s never gotten beyond that time in his life. We all have our bright moments, and our low moments, and so much of life is a product of serendipity (call it fate if you will), and we all eventually get ill and die. It happened to Reagan. It will happen to you and me. Some of us get stuck because what we planned didn’t happen. Carter is one of those people. IMHO he is not a lesser person than Reagan because he lost the presidency to him, but because he never got past that event and never used it to grow into something much more.

In short, he’s become a bitter person, and that’s a waste.

"Mr. Gorbachev, Tear down this wall." - Ronald Reagan

"Aaah, a rabbit! Keep it away, keep it away!!!" - Jimmy Carter

Well Jimmah, you didn’t defeat Reagan and you aren’t manly. And by the way, you should have been buried at 75 like Zeke says.

That is what “the loser” in ‘88 probably said as well as AES in ‘52 & ‘56.

In the Reagan photo, it’s not just his “manliness;” look at the expressions of the young sailors and marines: Utter Admiration. Something Carter, or Obama for that matter, ever evoke.

Hell Jimmy, you could have defeated Ronald Reagan if you had been even a semi-competent president. After all YOU did have about a 90% press advantage.

William Buckley already beat him to the punch. Buckley once wrote that Carter’s shortcomings were “organic”. I’m going on memory; he did not use the shortcomings word, but that was what he meant.

I think it was a “The Week” item in National Review, that started: “Jimmy Carter, who is unable to see the connection between any two things...”

The adjective “manly” doesn’t actually refer to men. It’s properly applied to BOYS. It’s a compliment.
