Its hard to imagine that any school would have a problem with a book about a Christian family that helped Jews escape the Holocaust.
But Springs Charter Schools in Temecula, Calif., not only had a problem with The Hiding Place, they also took issue with any other book that was written by a Christian author or included a Christian message.
We do not purchase sectarian educational materials and do not allow sectarian materials on our state-authorized lending shelves, Superintendent Kathleen Hermsmeyer wrote in a letter to attorneys at the Pacific Justice Institute (PJI).
Pacific Justice Institute is representing a parent who discovered what they called a Christian purging of the charter schools library.
She was told by one of the library attendants that the library has been instructed to remove all books with a Christian message, authored by Christians, or published by a Christian publishing company, read a letter PJI sent to the public charter school. The attendant advised that the library would no longer be carrying those books. Indeed, our client was told that the library was giving those books away, and she actually took some.

Next up. No authors not married to each other or single will be allowed next to each other on same shelf.
Did the Koran receive equal treatment?
Fahrenheit 451 just around the corner.
Not connected to this story but interesting in light of it, the bizarre irony is this is “Read a banned book” week (Sept. 21-27) sponsored by the American Library Association.
http://www.ala.org/bbooks/bannedbooksweek
Of course, included in their list of recommendations are stories promoting twisted self loathing, perverted sexuality, drugs, and delinquency etc...(even to High School students),yet apparently they have a major problem recommending the Bible. A very ‘banned’ book.
(Then they wonder why the culture is collapsing into debauchery.)
No. If any muslim complained about a lack of the quran in the library, or for want of a prayer room where he could throw down his dirty rug and stick his butt in the air for allah...or a foot bath, they’d get what they wanted but quick, with the ACLU at the ready to sue the school for any lack of compliance.
I’m sure the writings of Mao and perhaps Mein Kampf are on a reading list. Actually, I did read Mein Kampf (being home schooled) and it was quite enlightening in the fact that if it was read prior to WW2 just maybe ....but it was banned in Boston at the time.
The world of self important sinners hates Jesus. He holds a light up to their hatred of God.
they are purging history. take it from that angle.
they can have such material, they just can’t demand anyone become a christian it’s so freaking assinine.
They Left like to accuse people of being book burners. But the book burners and censors are on the Left.
Kathleen Hermsmeyer, the superintendent, is no stranger to controversy. She was fired from her last job, as Executive Director for a different charter school, for misappropriation of money and conflicts of interest, then she went to this new charter school.
Three back-to-back articles about it:
http://charterschoolscandals.blogspot.com/2011/05/eagles-peak-charter-school-4000.html
Other reasons cited for Hermsmeyers firing included her alleged decisions to:
- Allow a top administrator to earn $64,500 on loans the school took out without board approval.
- Lease a $43,000 sport utility vehicle, albeit partly for school use, an action the board called needlessly excessive.
- Lease a beachfront condominium in Oceanside for two top administrators to supposedly attract quality employees, an action the board called tantamount to a gift of public funds.
- Give a substantial pay raise to employees last year without board approval and despite the schools negative operating balance at the time of $655,000, raises the coastal board contends benefited Hermsmeyer as well as her husband and sister, who were also employees.
- Work as a teacher while also working as executive director, and collecting two salaries, constituting a self-dealing transaction and a violation of the Political Reform Act.
Yeah I can see christian teachings are detrimental to young children much like muslim beheadings, rape and torture of young girls, stoning of women to death, yeah I can see it. We are living in a time where so called normal people have sick minds and will pay the ultimate price by thier captors eventually
I am sure she is an ardent Obama supporter as we’ll. What a pig.
This isn’t a single school. It’s a small chain of charter schools headquartered in Temecula. One of the questions not answered is it just one school or the entire group
Bump
One of my neices is a manager of multiple library locations (super nice gal, but liberal) and posted the Read a Banned Book marketing on Facebook. I told her I definitely agreed, and posted a link to the article about this school. Crickets since then.
You might have made her think about it. Definitely a good thing.
They are going to lose a number of authors if they ban works written by “Christians”.
