A suspect who led police on a 100 mph chase and then attempted to hide was caught after officers picked up on the strong scent of his cologne, according to the Lebanon Police Department.

An officer attempted to stop a Honda Prelude for speeding and failing to obey a traffic control device at 4 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the car sped up and hit speeds in excess of 100 mph heading westbound on Highway 20 toward Albany.

During the chase, the hood of the suspect's car was ripped off due to the speed.

Police lost sight of the car in the area of Spicer Drive and Red Bridge Road and the pursuit was called off. As officers headed back to Lebanon, they spotted the Prelude in a driveway.

Police contacted the people in the home who said they saw a man running across their yard away from the car.

Officers said due to the darkness and dense foliage, they didn't immediately see the suspect. However, they did smell him.

Police said a strong scent of cologne was permeating the area.

A U.S. Department of Forestry ranger and a K-9 team arrived and the suspect was found within a few minutes, hunkered down in shrubbery on private property.

Charles Agosto, 35, was arrested on charges of attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving and criminal trespassing. Police said he was on post-prison supervision for a dangerous drugs conviction.

Drex the K-9 alerted on Agosto's car for possible drugs. The car was seized and will be searched after the service of a warrant, according to police.

"Agosto mentioned he regretted applying cologne on his person prior to leaving his house," according to a Lebanon police report.

Especially if, because they are scared, they void their bladders and evacuate their colons at the same time. That would leave them rather fragrant.

I spoke to a woman at church one night. Powerful distinctive breath odor. Almost makes you cough.

I met her husband the next morning. Same breath. I asked him if he was ________’s husband. He was.

Just goes to show you how well those Honda’s are put together.

Sounds like a really nice car.

We are Toyota fans. But maybe we’ll consider Hyundai next time?

Thanks.

I drive an elantra 2013. They will do 155 in the US(electronic limiting).
**************************
I think you meant to write 115 ... they limit the speed so they can install cheaper (lower speed rated) tires at the factory.

With 148 hp (from the larger engine) and that frontal area ,, even with a good cd 155 is impossible to achieve.

The story was 155...and I did question the story and I asked some experts. The CHP cops were only able to catch him because the engine shut off. Now whether or not the driver was leaning heavily on the lower gears to get torque and there was a down hill slope involved...I couldn’t say. The car may have been modded...don’t know.

I know I was up over a hundred(by accident!) feeling like I was only going 70. The car will surprise you!

A Prelude will go 100 MPH?

Briefly. Verrry briefly.

You are correct. I meant I-94.

It was from just after we entered from North Dakota around this area:

(that’s the one where you don’t leave plenty of margin when changing back into the other lane).

I do that a lot more than I should. Seriously. :-(

I wouldn’t have thought a Chrysler would GO 140. Unless you pushed it off a really high cliff.

------------------------------

We had a 2001 300m with the "sport suspension". One of the features was the governor at 142. The speedometer topped out at 120 and I went WAY past that. I can only assume it was 142.

Even on a smooth montana interstate, the corners are FAST and , uh, slippery at that speed. It was a serious rush.

We loved that car. Sadly, after we moved to Kentucky a big buck ran right into the side of it, FOUR DAYS after we cancelled comprehensive insurance. Neck hit the front fender. Hooves hit the drivers door and, as it spun around, the butt hit the back door. Would you believe I picked up all the parts for the mirror and glued it all back together using an aluminum pop can as an interior skin and JB weld. The motorized mirror adjustment even kept working.

Retired it at 185k miles for my FR-S.

We loved driving through that state. Especially the central part. Spectacularly beautiful. My sister and her husband live in Columbus. When we lived in Seattle, we’d drive to our relatives place in eastern SD in that Chrysler quite a few times and stop by Columbus on the way.

Trabant and 45 mph, I guess that would be a cause for concern. Fumes could do it too.
