A suspect who led police on a 100 mph chase and then attempted to hide was caught after officers picked up on the strong scent of his cologne, according to the Lebanon Police Department.

An officer attempted to stop a Honda Prelude for speeding and failing to obey a traffic control device at 4 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the car sped up and hit speeds in excess of 100 mph heading westbound on Highway 20 toward Albany.

During the chase, the hood of the suspect's car was ripped off due to the speed.

Police lost sight of the car in the area of Spicer Drive and Red Bridge Road and the pursuit was called off. As officers headed back to Lebanon, they spotted the Prelude in a driveway.

Police contacted the people in the home who said they saw a man running across their yard away from the car.

Officers said due to the darkness and dense foliage, they didn't immediately see the suspect. However, they did smell him.

Police said a strong scent of cologne was permeating the area.

A U.S. Department of Forestry ranger and a K-9 team arrived and the suspect was found within a few minutes, hunkered down in shrubbery on private property.

Charles Agosto, 35, was arrested on charges of attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving and criminal trespassing. Police said he was on post-prison supervision for a dangerous drugs conviction.

Drex the K-9 alerted on Agosto's car for possible drugs. The car was seized and will be searched after the service of a warrant, according to police.

"Agosto mentioned he regretted applying cologne on his person prior to leaving his house," according to a Lebanon police report.

Just dang! I had my Chrysler 300m up to 142 mph for about 30 miles and didn’t lose any parts.

The watch commander might have halted the pursuit for safety reasons.

No wonder he ran. He was probably feeling overconfident after watching The Blues Brothers earlier that evening.

Aramis or Jade East? Phew; those would arrive in a room 5 mins before you entered. (Yeah, I used both in the 60s.)

That's like, under 13 minutes. Wow. I guess after the first 10 minutes or so, it's just like driving 55(?).

You get used to it, but it’s amazing how many miles you cover. I was on I-95 in eastern Montana being chased by a couple of guys in Jeep Grand Cherokees with Minnesota plates who had tried to blobk both lanes and I passed them on the shoulder.

But their governors were at 105. Intesting tidbit: I dropped down to 95 for a while and they caught up to me. So I did it again.

In my younger, crazier, days I used a 1980 Subaru DL station wagon to outrun/eluded a couple state troopers who wanted to give me a speeding ticket.

It’s not always about raw speed. Sometimes it’s about how fast you’re willing (and able) to pitch it in to the turns - and how poorly most police officers drive.

A Prelude will go 100 MPH?

I had a guy in a big BMW SUV with Miami University stickers keep passing me on the interstate and then slightly slowing down in front of me. Every time he would do it, I'd pass him and put it back on cruise.

After the 3rd time he 'did' me like that, I lost my religion a little bit, went around him and gave him the old 'I'll show you' lane change (that's the one where you don't leave plenty of margin when changing back into the other lane). That's all it took - he roared up next to me, pretty angry, I imagine.

So, I waved at him (no, not with the middle finger), downshifted 2 gears (did I mention that I was driving a Porsche?) and ran it up to about 125 for a mile or so, figuring that if he was mad enough to really come after me, I could easily out-drive him to the nearest place of safety.

It was fun. I hate those Miami people...

Cologne: NOT a substitute for proper bathing.

Me too, 140mph — SRT4. Although it would have been certain death for me if I had hit a large rock or a pothole. Lol.

We traded it in for a nice family car. :(
