They Lost Their Bakery, Now Face Bankruptcy
The Daily Signal ^ | September 29, 2014 | Kelsey Harkness

A bakery owner in Oregon broke down in tears while discussing the fallout of her and her husband’s decision not to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple on the basis of their Christian beliefs.

Earlier this year, the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries found “substantial evidence” that Aaron and Melissa Klein, owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, discriminated against the lesbian couple.

Oregon bakery owners face a $150,000 discrimination fine for not baking a wedding cake for lesbians.

They now face a fine in excess of $150,000.

(snip)

The ordeal started in February 2013, when Rachel Cryer and Laurel Bowman asked the bakery owners to design a wedding cake for their same-sex commitment ceremony.

At the time, Oregon defined marriage as the union between one man and one woman; voters overwhelmingly approved the constitutional amendment in 2004.

Aaron told The Daily Signal he thought he was “well within” his legal rights to decline the service, citing his traditional beliefs that a marriage is between a man and a woman.

In January 2014, the Kleins were charged with violating Oregon’s Equality Act of 2007, a law that protects the rights of the LGBT community.

Congratulations, fair and tolerant liberals. You’ve successfully destroyed their lives because you didn’t like what they had to say. Pat yourselves on the back again.

I wish this couple would stop crying about their situation to the news media and take some constructive action on their own behalf.

How do you propose they do that when the full weight of the government is crushing them.

I would have made them a cake but I doubt they would have wanted to eat it. In the back of their minds they would be thinking about what I put in the cake.

I would love to debate to them. Where can I send money to help them. I might donate some cakes to an Oregon children home.

How is it ex post facto? I am not saying I agree with the law, but the law was enacted in 2007.

Via the voter-approved constitutional amendment of 2004, which preceded and preempts the oppressive 2007 LGBT law.

Now they get to sue in civil court to recoup the losses. They had to go bankrupt to establish standing.

The one word that best describes what Obama has done to America is “sodomize”.

You don’t expect liberals to give a damn about the effect of their policies on others, do you? Look at what the clowns have done to the mainstream Protestant churches - rapidly declining membership offset only by payments by surviving parish churches so they can get out of the national denomination. I never saw anything done by a left liberal that didn’t end up looking like a dog’s breakfast.

No matter what horror falls on an American through the heavy foot of government, there’s always some freeper to claim that the American is a cry-baby. Never fails.

The rights of gun owners aren’t protected by a constitutional amendment like the rights of queers are. Oh, wait....

Atheism at its finest - and all states/nations who become atheistic are doomed to tyranny...not that tyranny is limited to the atheistic of course. But any US state that has legalized abortion-on-demand and embraced sodomy marriage...essentially kicked God out of their public spheres is solidly on the path of atheism.

Some will “claim” its liberty, but that’s truly a lie - and every human knew that truth in their heart.

Yes, I do. The Constitutional Amendment of 2004 clearly stated that marriage was between a man and a woman. The bakery couple were within their legal rights to refuse service by pointing out that the proposed cake was not intended for a legal wedding.

The 2007 LGBT law came three years later and was in direct contradiction to the constitutional amendment, and it was only after that amendment was struck down that the LGBT mafia/liberal government went after the couple based upon the 2007 law, which is clearly after the fact.

The Constitution?

Yldstrk my dear, I know you are a lawyer and have nothing but respect for our Founding Documents and Laws, it's your livelihood.

But Leftists Don't.

It's nothing more than paper to them.

“No matter what horror falls on an American through the heavy foot of government, there’s always some freeper to claim that the American is a cry-baby. Never fails.”

I was reading a book last night about how the Nazis came in and destroyed countries. People would not help their neighbors and would even turn them in. Then you hear about a brave couple standing up for what they believe and someone calls them crybabies. We should not be accepting this slow eroding of our Constitutional rights by this Socialist President and his cronies.
