“The Lt. Col. has repeatedly called him a “coward” in news conferences and late last week said that the Troopers had found “used diapers”.”

Wouldn't a sniper utilize diapers to stay stationary? If I recall, Carlos Hathcock fouled his pants rather than move several times.

but they are anything but cowards.

Running away doesn't do much to prove their bravery.

And if he kills someone while cops are saving money, those screaming the loudest now will be the ones screaming about the cops letting him go to kill again.

“Maybe we 100 million gun owners armed with over a BILLION guns — many of us rural, and many of us with similar skills — DO actually stand a chance against a tyrannical fedgov.”

Eric Rudolph evaded feds for five years and spend a lot of time within a mile or so of their HQ in the Mts. of NC.

So we have a guy that has killed one law enforcement officer and attempted to kill another. He’s armed and dangerous and we can probably assume that his disregard for human life extends to non-law enforcement personnel. What’s your budget proposal for dealing with this guy?

The article gives way too much information about the one woman, her family, their names and ages, where they live, which family member is bedridden, etc.

She’s not even involved, and the Daily Mail put all that information out there for everyone to read. Not good.

‘He’s leading them into a prepared kill zone.’

I’d bet money on it.

It’s called “tactical withdrawal” and it’s been considered a sound military strategy for about 4,000 years or so.

Every now and then, it occurs to me that it would not take too high a percentage of folks that had nothing left to lose to completely overload the machine. Just an idle thought, certainly not advocating anything, but just a thought.

Many people have had that thought

Total cluster. They also didn’t have a problem ignoring people’s right during this manhunt.

I don’t approve of what this guy did. He deserves to be brought to justice.

I hadn't been following this story at the beginning, and it seems that everything I find about it in searches more related to the 'manhunt' than what actually precipitated it.

Does anyone have any good links to how this started?

I think the point was if he had killed you and me there would not be this sort of effort or expense.

You nailed it. If they’ve got the feds called in then they could easily deputize some SF or Seals to track him down. Part of this is practice and part is an oversize ego which could get some killed. Too many of these are adult children who have seen too many movies. At least they are leaving the woods at nightfall. Even with night vision they have a couple of deadly shortcomings: One, they are generally not familiar with night operations; two, they are generally afraid of the dark; and three, their offense is of a defensive nature (they present a large target) and effective offensive actions are limited by the danger.
