Swiss voters on Sunday rejected a plan for a seismic shift from the country's all-private health insurance system to a state-run scheme.
Referendum results showed that almost 62 percent of voters had shot down a reform pushed by left-leaning parties which say the current private system is busting the budgets of ordinary residents.
The results also underlined the national divisions over the hotly-contested issue as the country's German-speaking regions voted against the plan, while their French-speaking counterparts were in favour.
Switzerland's private insurance lobby hailed the vote.

Your country was a warning.
If we’d been able to vote on it in the same way (instead of all the dirty deals done by our “representatives” to shove it down our throats), we probably would’ve voted it down too. Even a lot of Obozo voters were opposed.
Lefties sure do love universal healthcare, high speed trains, gun control, and micromanaging daily lives.

We get blatant corruption shoving it down our throats. The Swiss have a national referendum.

A quick look up on Wikipedia of the Swiss healthcare system gives me the idea that they already have state run (mandated and subsidized) health insurance.

Well,they have their anomalies too, like the small village which is having the taxes of its inhabitants raised app 5% just to support one African immigrant family (food, nanny, social services, entertainment, etc).
The US had every opportunity to reject Obamacare...at the polls. The ignorant, mal-informed portion of our electorate could have REJECTED OBAMA and that would have prevented many ugly horror stories we are now living with.
Many of us warned of the danger. They did not listen. Now look at what we have.

How so? Their current system is very, very similar to Obamacare in many ways.
Why don't these French speakers go move back to France if they love socialism so much? My understanding is that Hollande is to the left of every other European head of state, and that socialism has been implemented at a rapid pace in France. Maybe these Swiss socialists don't like the burqa ban in France?
Heck, why bother to have a vote, then?

They have a democracy. My country used to have one.
They weren't opposed when the plan was first rolled out. Freebies for everybody!
But now the bills are arriving in the mail. There is now a lot of buyer's remorse. It's a shame that a referendum could not have been held six months after Obamacare went into effect.
