MULTIMEDIA CHILD LABOR IN PAKISTAN

NEW YORK (AP) -- Health officials are investigating nine cases of muscle weakness or paralysis in Colorado children and whether the culprit might be a virus causing severe respiratory illness across the country.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday sent doctors an alert about the polio-like cases and said the germ - enterovirus 68 - was detected in four out of eight of the sick children who had a certain medical test. The status of the ninth case is unclear.

The virus can cause paralysis but other germs can, too. Health officials don't know whether the virus caused any of the children's arm and leg weaknesses or whether it's just a germ they coincidentally picked up.

NO.
Amherst left used blankets in a storehouse.
THE INDIANS STOLE THEM— as they were wont to do.

The “germ theory” in medicine came in a century or so later.

Where is Jonas Salk when you need him.
One of my life-long heroes. I was a kid in the '50s and was one of thousands who were involved in the testing of his vaccine.
Interesting that he found that vaccine in a relatively short amount of time, with limited funding.
Sixty years and billions of grant-dollars later and what other disease has been cured/prevented?

Could we pause for a moment to thank all LIB idiots who continue to offer the germ-filled degenerates “sanctuary” in this country? Thanks a lot, you naive fools.

I couldn’t agree more. The anti-vaccine crowd has to be $hittin’ in their knickers.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Thanks for clarifying that. When did doctors begin washing their hands because they learned about germs? Late 1800’s

Oddly enough, I can’t yet blame this on Obama, because of the nature of the virus.

In the genus of Enterovirus, there are 68 different types that infect humans, that freely swap genetic material. 64 of them cause non-polio symptoms, one of the most annoying being the Rhinovirus that causes common cold symptoms.

This particular Enterovirus, number 68 out of more than a hundred known human and non-human Enterovirus viruses, has been known since 1962, in California. Seen as a minor pathogen, it rarely infected children almost all of which had asthma.

So the bottom line is that E68 likely did a gene swap with one of its kin, making it much more communicable. This sort of thing happens all the time.

N.B.: Pathogenic respiratory viruses are far less likely to be a problem in Mexico, central and northern South America because of the higher temperatures and UV radiation. Flu epidemics in Mexico are far rarer than they are here, for example. Bacteria are another matter.

Many - but not all - had asthma before the infection.

Hope they had sense enough to check the kids' asthma inhalers for contamination. This is seeming more and more like the Tylenol tampering.

It makes perfect sense that it is The Obama Strain because he is:

TYPHOID BARRY!

He contaminates, corrupts, infects and destroys EVERYTHING and EVERYONE he (along with his "policies") touches. Tagline

Don't know about polio, but they stopped the smallpox vaccine in 1971. I happen to have gone to Europe that year so I got a booster shot.

Thy say it lasts for about 10 years, so even those who got it in 1970 have lost their immunity.

I was the oldest of (eventually) six kids. My mother would say a prayer every time his name came up.
I can't imagine the dread and horror parents went through before Salk saved the day.

I’m not anti-vaccine but I’m glad they are or have removed the preservative thimerosal, which contained mercury.

I agree, and I believe it was thimerosal that was being scapegoated as the problem by the anti-vaccine crowd.
But has there been a corresponding decrease in autism? I don't think so.
