Californian woman Melora Rivera caught on camera hiding on roof from intruder

Chilling images have been captured of a woman hiding on her roof, cowering with fear, unable to see a masked intruder approaching her from behind.

The Californian woman climbed out of her second-storey bedroom window early in the morning on Wednesday to hide from a man who broke into her home in Venice Beach, near Los Angeles.

"Once I saw him in the house, I knew that we both couldn't be there," Melora Rivera told CBS news. "I knew that I didn't want to have a confrontation with him of any sort, you know, not knowing what his intention was." She hid under a window eave, wearing just the flannel shirt she had been sleeping in, and called the police. A number of policemen arrived within minutes but were reportedly unsure whether Ms Rivera, perched on the roof, was herself the burglar.

"It was my biggest fear was that he was going to be forced by the cops to come hide in basically the same place I was hiding," Ms Rivera said.

A woman who took photos as the drama unfolded told NBC: "I'm zooming in and I'm snapping pictures of her - she's like on the phone - and then this head pops up from the other side of the roof behind her, this figure that was so scary."

The terrifying images of the incident have since gone viral on social media.

Los Angeles resident Melora Rivera had a role in the 2012 Whitney Houston film Sparkle.

The alleged intruder, identified as Christian Hicks, was taken into custody on suspicion of burglary.

“not knowing what his intention was.”

It’s bad intent. Shoot him.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help you. Same response, shoot him.

Sorry to hear this....it’s always upsetting to uproot like that. I trust you have found a good place.

Yes we did. We moved to North Texas, and have found it to be a much, much better environment for our family and business.

I went back to California for a short visit to see my folks in 2010. Within the space of twenty four hours I was practically crawling the walls with discomfort. When the plane home to Texas was finally wheels up, I felt an enormous surge of relief. I practically kissed the ground when I got off the plane in Dallas.

I loved the California I grew up in, and swore I'd never leave, but I had no idea how drastically it would change. Like a lot of other natives, I was pushed out, but landed in a far better place.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that if he's going on the roof where the woman is, but the stereo isn't, that he doesn't exactly have burglary on his mind.

A .38 Spl has very little recoil, even in a lightweight snubbie. Recoil does increase noticeably with .38 +P cartridges, but it is still manageable. A .357 magnum, especially in a snubbie, is a different thing entirely.

I am in my 60s, and have been a shooter practically all my life. I shoot .357 magnum regularly. But even I find it unpleasant to shoot a .357 magnum in any revolver with a barrel less than 4”. In a lightweight, 2” snubbie it is damn uncomfortable.

I was born and raised in Southern California, but I left for good in 1979, when I was 28.

Looks like a nice spread for a cowering black lady!

She keeps cowering, not for long...

Guns are the only instruments on the planet which level the playing field between a 300 pound man and a 100 pound woman.

Yet the left is against them. Who really has a “war on women”?

Having 2 pistols is good. Having one in every room of those is better. Stage it so that it is prepared should you ever need them.

If you are needing a pistol in every room it’s time to rethink your living location.

You and I are close to the same age. I was 26 that year.

I must admit, you sure didn't miss any of the good times after you left. Things were already going downhill at that point, but I was just too consumed with ongoing events in my personal life to see it. It would be another 25 years before I just couldn't take it anymore.

Well, that’s not the reason I’m glad she is ok (and it probably is not yours either!)

The perp is lucky he doesn’t live around here: A lot of these ol’ boys are good shots and would ask questions later, seeing that scene...
