Chilling images have been captured of a woman hiding on her roof, cowering with fear, unable to see a masked intruder approaching her from behind.
The Californian woman climbed out of her second-storey bedroom window early in the morning on Wednesday to hide from a man who broke into her home in Venice Beach, near Los Angeles.
"Once I saw him in the house, I knew that we both couldn't be there," Melora Rivera told CBS news. "I knew that I didn't want to have a confrontation with him of any sort, you know, not knowing what his intention was." She hid under a window eave, wearing just the flannel shirt she had been sleeping in, and called the police. A number of policemen arrived within minutes but were reportedly unsure whether Ms Rivera, perched on the roof, was herself the burglar.
"It was my biggest fear was that he was going to be forced by the cops to come hide in basically the same place I was hiding," Ms Rivera said.
A woman who took photos as the drama unfolded told NBC: "I'm zooming in and I'm snapping pictures of her - she's like on the phone - and then this head pops up from the other side of the roof behind her, this figure that was so scary."
The terrifying images of the incident have since gone viral on social media.
Los Angeles resident Melora Rivera had a role in the 2012 Whitney Houston film Sparkle.
The alleged intruder, identified as Christian Hicks, was taken into custody on suspicion of burglary.
The liberals in California fooled the voters into weakening the “Three Strikes” law in an election proposition because they (the liberals) don’t like burglars being sentenced to 25 years. The liberals argue that burglary is not a violent crime. I will stop here for decency sake.
Is that what it looks like to “shelter in place?”
Exactly. He wasn't there to steal. The only item he was looking for on the roof was her.
She would have been raped - at a minimum.
I’d say buy a 357 Mag revolver and then shoot 38 special out of it until she’s ready for the .357 mag ammo. So she wont have to buy twice.
But having two pistols is also good.
Amazing the three strikes law is gone in CA....
Once they weakened the law, they began releasing a lot of very bad hombres. Of course, California continues to toughen the laws against gun ownership.
My cousin is leaving CA this fall after 30 years there & taking his family and business with him. He’s had it.
I envy him. And I’m not kidding a bit!
Actually the NRA recommends a .22 Magnum for a woman. Not so much recoil and a much better pattern.
He’s moving to Maine....as far away from what CA has become as you can get. About 30 people are losing their jobs that have been working for him, but he can’t deal with the state any longer.
This situation this lady finds herself in is the legacy of LBJ and decades of Democratic destruction of the black family and destruction of traditional values.
She probably voted twice for Obama, if she voted at all.
REALLY?!
No, it was the white woman wearing only a flannel shirt who was going in through the roof to attack the huge black male.
I did the same thing nine years ago, after more than fifty years of being a California resident.
I was born and raised there, but I no longer recognize the place of my birth. For all intents and purposes, it's gone.
I think she's black, dude.
But he’ll be the Smartest Guy in the Room on the IBM commercials
This wouldn’t happen at my house.
‘nuff said...
Sorry to hear this....it’s always upsetting to uproot like that. I trust you have found a good place. CA was once the place every American wanted to move to until about the 1980s.
LOL - you're right...
Use the photo and her quote: “Once I saw him in the house, I knew that we both couldn’t be there.”
In California with such strict gun control, she is lucky she had a place to hide. Do you? She is also lucky that the police responded quickly. Another 15 seconds and she would have been wishing she had picked a better hiding spot.
