Pat Roberts asserts Va. home 'principal residence' in documents
The Topeka Capital Journal ^ | September 24, 2014 | Tim Carpenter

U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts put a signature to documents associated with the mortgage on a Virginia residence that identify the Fairfax County home as “principal residence” of the three-term incumbent Republican.

The re-election campaign of the Kansan has been awash in controversy about whether his ownership of a duplex in Dodge City, which is rented out, and his payment of about $300 a month for a room in a Dodge City supporter's home satisfied legal requirements for public office.

On Wednesday, records surfaced that Roberts signed a Deed of Trust in 1997 and 2003 for property owned in Alexandria, Va., with his wife, Franki, that contained text about a principal residence.

The documents, which include a series of covenants, required Roberts to attest the couple within 60 days of executing the document “shall continue to occupy the property as borrower’s principal residence for at least one year after the date of occupancy.”

A left-leaning independent.

Orman’s popular appeal isn’t that he’s a lefty, he’s just not part of the two parties who to a lot of people have come to represent every thing that is wrong with the culture of Washington DC.

Greg Orman’s being an independent gives him a lot of street cred in Kansas with those tired with out of touch Democrats and the equally clueless mainstream GOP.

Excuse me? I’m not whining about anything. I’m simply remarking on a conservative (you, presumably) who considers it “garbage” that a 3-term Senator doesn’t even live in the state he “represents.” I guess Algore’s phony Tennessee farm photos were okay by you, too.

The controversy around Roberts’ residence shows that people who live in Washington long enough forget where they come from.

The fact he’s underwater in a solid Red State like Kansas shows national disaffection with the status quo is not just about the Democrats. Orman’s popularity is a warning to GOP incumbents around the country.

Ho-man. This could actually be a game changer. I might have to retract my “October comeback in the polls” predictions of a few weeks ago.

A Senator or Rep from the West who actually does his job has to live in DC or not see his family.

Boo hoo. So what? Lots of people's jobs take them away from family.

Besides which, I was commenting more about the overall state of how Congress is run. Give them 3 months or whatever to do "the people's bidness", and send 'em home.

The fact the GOP establishment is frantically campaigning to save Roberts hasn’t excited the base. Sarah Palin won’t probably get them to come out.

He’s good as gone. He’s a political cadaver at 80.

He ran as a democrat, 6 years ago.

Even if he hadn’t, he’s a ****ing democrat if he will caucus with the democrats, which he would. When the democrats drop out and endorse you, it’s cause you’re a democrat.

Angus Queen is a democrat. Bernie Sanders is a democrat. Charlie Crist was a democrat before he officially became a democrat. Jim Jeffords, may he not rest in peace, was a democrat.

Should Roberts have retired? Sure. But he didn’t. We must deal with reality, reality is a conservative Senator faces a democrat and people are more intertested in slamming him, cause he’s old and lives in VA most of the time? A Senator spends most of his time in the DC area? Stop the presses!!!!! What Earth-shattering news!

He is certainly not “toast”, latest poll has him down 5 measly points, giving up is foolish, Harry Reid needs to be the issue here.

It's more than that. Washington permanancy was and is the goal for too many. I haven't done the numbers, but how many 2, 3, 4+ term folks are there? Look at McCain, "considering" another run at 78. 70 freakin' 8! Look at Reid, Cummings, etc., good grief we could go on for a page. They all need to GO!!! On the Repub side, if any (ANY!) of these dinosaurs actually care about the country, they should be actively working to help replacements for themselves after one or two terms.

The “indie” nonsense is a gimmick to increase his chances at victory by fooling idiots into thinking he’s not a democrat.

My point is in a year that could be a GOP wave election, he should not be down 5 points.

Let’s put the blame where it rests: on the GOP’s inability to explain why we need change in Washington.

And to a lot of people, Roberts is anything but change.

I expect the independent to pick up the seat.

I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Tell that to indies around the country.

If Orman wins, they’ll be writing what happened to Kansas?

Here’s a clue: if the GOP stood for something we wouldn’t be discussing why the GOP is losing a winnable race in Kansas, of all places.

Sebelius was our Governor in case you didn't know.

“Let’s put the blame where it rests: on the GOP’s inability to explain why we need change in Washington.”

The GOP can’t explain why we need change in Washington because the GOP stands for nothing.

Thx Impy. I will vote for Pat Roberts as most everyone I know will. Love Pat Roberts. I don’t give a flip if he lives on the moon. That Marine has helped veterans and has helped me personally with a veteran getting socked by the IRS for something THEY did. We wouldn’t have closed on his house otherwise.

You people need to stop worrying about Pat Roberts.

What is the GOP running on other than Democrats bad, Harry Reid
evil? Where is the message, the vision, the plan?

The only wave that seems to be developing is the desperation wave.

Legally as long as he’s registered to vote in Kansas then he’s a resident. But this just reinforces the ‘out of touch with Kansas’ view that people have of him.

Wolf would be trailing Ortman by 20 points right now. So whining about it is irrelevant.

It would have still been a three man race.

Mary Landrieu has similar problems.

And wouldn't you agree it's a valid point against her?

Harry Reid needs to be the issue here.

But thanks to Roberts he isn't. All of Roberts problems are entirely of his own making.
