So yeah, I posted lame "topics" but, y'all love me, so here it is.
cracked my back molar, dentist put a temp on it, crushed the lil plastic thing yesterday, pretty dentist put the old aluminium one on until the permanent comes from Vietnam or wherever.
Thing is, it hurts, like it's bare and for the 1st time in my life my stomach hurts.
Okay, so I whine but, could be worse, right?
I mean, I'm a single, 51 year old man. If were pregnant and walking the streets of Somalia, I don't think, maybe, they would understand.
I feel it might be great if someone put a hatchet through my left foot.
I mean, I don't really use the the thing, not even for driving and hell, the distraction?

So, there it is. Vendome whines for the 1st time but, dernit! It feels like what's left of my tooth is in a vise!

Take your finger tips and push hard into your lower jaw bone on either side near the mandible joint and see where it hurts....just for fun...
If you have any leftover narcotic pain medication take 2 to start - once you get on top of the pain you can cut it down to a maintenance level - as long as you take every 3-4 hours.
If you have a dentist, call the jerk up at home regardless of what time it is, and get a prescription for an antibiotic and narcotic.
When you see the dentist, I recommend extraction over root canal and if you can afford it replace with an implant. A root canal is usually excruciating and will have to be done again and again...because they're profitable and dentists are often frustrated doctors who didn't get into medical school so they take it out on unsuspecting patients.
No sarcasm there...but after 50 years I finally found a dentist who believes in pain relief - amazing the difference from the last one I had so if you aren't happy just keep trying new ones until you get a good one.
Good luck, see the emergency room if you can't get ahold of your dentist...and DO NOT GET FRUSTRATED AND DO SOMETHING STUPID!
It took longer than a regular filling, and the surgeon used a LOT of anesthetic so I didn't feel any pain. He was an orthodontic surgeon, not a regular dentist--you really should have a specialist do a root canal. Then I went to a cosmetic dentist to have a temporary crown, then later, a permanent crown installed. And now I feel so much better!
I had the root canal because of severe pain, not infection. I couldn't eat or drink anything. After the procedure, I realized that there had been chronic pain for years before it became acute. For all the horror stories about root canals, I am very glad to have had it done.

I have a crack at the jawline of one of my molars. The tooth has had a root canal, fillings, etc. nothing left to do but pull it. I constantly have abscesses which I squeeze to get rid of any crap take some antibiotics and now that Vicodin is pretty much outlawed, I take ibuprofen 800.
I have to have the tooth pulled. Just too afraid to do it. A very bad extraction experience when I was younger has left me paralyzed to do anything. I am miserable.
I'm terribly afraid of having a painful medical problem, because then I have to make a choice--take the narcotics, even though they don't seem to help with pain at all and make me feel profoundly horrible, or take nothing and keep thinking I need to take something. The last time I took a narcotic, I had a splitting headache for 3 days after one pill.
I am currently researching TENS for a shoulder tendonitis. Nearly all of them say NOT to use on the upper neck, head or face.
Oil of cloves. Stuff is a wonder drug on bad teeth.
Cured my dry sockets after wisdom teeth surgery. (Real bad wisdom teeth surgery in my 40’s)
Over the past few years I’ve had two root canals. Completely pain free. I would do it in a second if he recommended it.
Aleve.
Lost a large temporary filling while waiting for a root canal. Aleve was the only OTC medicine that worked. Alcohol would work temporarily, but would lead to waking up in the middle of the night.
Also, use hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash to keep the area clean.
Don’t feel too bad, last Friday I went out to prune bushes and cut the end of my finger off.
Bled like crazy, went to the ER. All they could do was clean and wrap. I writhed in horrible pain for a few days. It is still wrapped, but I have to have a skin graft on Monday.
My bushes look good though. My stomach feels horrible from taking major antibiotics.
By the way, see if you can get someone to give a few Toradols.
Kills the pain totally, but it is always given for short term acute pain.
If it’s an abscessed tooth, try breaking an aspirin tablet up into small pieces and putting a piece directly on the cavity and letting it dissolve.
I think I’m going through a ight withdrawal. I’ve always had a store of vicodin for back injuries and migrainish headaches but I only took maybe one or two a day then nothing for weeks or months.
I’ve had a degree of insomnia for years but after stopping three weeks of 24/7 pain pills it was unbearable. I got my PCP to call in some sleeping pills for me. God bless her! I haven’t slept this well in over ten years.
I took the pill and fell asleep in about half an hour and didn’t move until 7 hours later. I wake up every hour or two usually. It was getting so bad that I had absolutely no energy in the daytime, weak shaky arms and legs and grouchier than I don’t know what. I can’t believe the difference just one good night’s sleep made.
The splitting headache on your end? Years ago a doctor told me sometimes you can get “rebound” pain after the meds wear off and that happened to me too a time or two but it was almost twenty years ago so I forgot what I did to deal with it.
Opiates and I do not mix well.
Yeah well, I was 19 at the time and in college. Everyone had had ear infections that semester, I thought I was just the next in line.
I was taking several narcotic pills a day for 2 or 3 weeks after I broke my arm. Sometime during that period, the headache started. I don't think it was a rebound headache, but rather was caused directly by the narcotic (Oxycodone or something like that). The headache took days to resolve. When I had the second surgery on my arm to remove the pins, I took one narcotic pill and immediately got a headache that lasted for days.
I refuse to take narcotics of any kind now. I wish there were better means of pain management.
