why is he so intent upon telling the enemy what he would and would not do? Try to think like 0bama ...
Who are his friends? Who are his enemies?
Who and what is 0bama?
Your idea of "the enemy" and 0bama's idea of "the enemy" may be very different.

This whole radical Islam problem goes back to Carter getting rid of the Shaw of Iran. Brings in a radical Cleric and the cancer moved forward.
The Shiites wouldn't be that much of a problem if it weren't for the most radical faction of "twelvers" being in control. They are a danger because they believe that its their duty to usher in the Mahdi which is basically Armageddon. (Which drives their desire to destroy Israel)
Aside from the twelvers, Shiites don't have near the expansionist sentiments of the Sunnis and generally don't blow themselves up. I wouldn't want to live in a Shia world but a world without Sunnis would be a whole lot better.

I read that he told the off the record media that it wasn’t going to be “a fireworks show over Baghdad.”
What a piece of human debris. Still had to take a shot a W.

If you are not going to get into it to win, just stay out, regardless of the consequences for non-intervention. Eventually the situation will get so threatening that the only option is to take up the fight when it is hopeless, but no alternatives exist.
Consider the situation for Great Britain in 1940. The evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France, between 27 May and 4 June 1940 was one of the great routs of history, but also probably the most miraculous, considering the odds against them. Once back in England, Winston Churchill rallied the British to continue their nearly hopeless resistance to the advance of the Nazi war machine, promising them nothing but “blood, toil, sweat and tears”.

why is he so intent upon telling the enemy what he would and would not do? Shy? He's a Muslim. Sure, Muslims fight, but they also support each other, the further away, the more the support.
He's hoping they'll get the message and not do anything too inflammatory--like beheading Americans, or trapping 50,000 Yezidis on a mountain-top and, without intervention, either killing or enslaving them. If they lay low, and show they can be a responsible addition to the 57 Muslim states, maybe we can start up trade relations with them. /S

So that what we do won’t work.
