Independent Greg Orman has opened up a lead in his effort to unseat Republican Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts, according to a new poll from Democratic firm Public Policy Polling.
Orman leads Roberts 41-34, with Democrat Chad Taylor who announced plans to end his campaign earlier this month capturing 6 percent of the vote. Libertarian Randall Batson earned 4 percent support in the poll, which was first provided to the Huffington Post. The automated phone and online survey of 1,328 likely voters was taken between Sept. 11 and Sept. 14. The margin of error is plus-or-minus 2.7 percentage points.
In a head-to-head matchup, Ormans lead grows to 10 percentage points, according to the poll.
The poll is the first to show Orman with a clear lead, even with Taylor included among the pool of candidates. Taylor has attempted to withdraw from the race entirely and is suing to remove his name from the November ballot.
Even more significantly, PPP did not prompt respondents about Taylor ending his campaign before conducting the ballot test. The majority of Taylor supporters said they know that he has asked to be removed from the ballot, and a subsequent question showed 63 percent of likely voters think he should be allowed to withdraw his name.
The state Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday in the case. Taylor is appealing GOP Secretary of State Kris Kobachs decision to keep his name on the ballot.

Pathetic. Purely pathetic that the GOP can’t hold a seat like this in a strong election year. What a bunch of morons. Way to motivate your voters.
The GOPe blew this big time. Roberts WILL lose. Bank on it. In the end, I’m not so ure that’s a bad thing. If we can’t beat them in a Primary, the GOPe needs to see that their idiot candidates can’t win the General.
Amazing.
So, Kansas.. what got you so enamored with the liberals again?
Looks like the GOP needs to awaken.
Still, this is one poll. Let’s see if it is an outlier or a harbinger.
Wait until they start airing some of Ormans legal issues.
WELL DONE GOPE!!!!
YOU’VE OUTDONE YOURSELVES!
ASSHATS!!!!
I think that's an illusion we've been chasing for some time, that this was going to be some kind of "wave" year for the GOP. I've been predicting a +4 net gain for the GOP in November.. that, of course, excluding any turnovers in favor of the dems.
Ouch....
Democrat poll. Orman is a left-wing moonbat well out of step with Kansas. Roberts is a good Conservative Senator.
Ditch Mitch too.
OK, so the fact that it's a Democrat polling firm makes one question how accurate it is, but there is no doubt that Roberts could very well be in serious trouble. Taylor dropping out hurt Roberts more than it helped him. I think Wolf scored big with the absenteeism charges in the primary and that's carrying over to the general. This could possibly be a upset in the making.
I’m worried about MS too. The GOP-E is lawless scum there, and it’s never a good thing when it comes down to a judge deciding whether lawless scum can always get away with it. Judges know who butters their bread...
Is it that they're enamored with liberals or just completely disenchanted with Roberts?
“I think that’s an illusion we’ve been chasing for some time, that this was going to be some kind of “wave” year for the GOP.”
I think they actively worked to PREVENT a wave, by nominating, across the country, the least exciting candidates possible. Milquetoast across the board.
I do think there will be a wave in downballot races, similar to 2010, when we captured some 700 legislative seats, 19 legislative chambers and 10 governorships.
This is where the real leadership will bubble up from. Note that the Establishment rarely chooses state legislators to run for the US Senate (who would have the experience). Instead, they LOVE former Bush Administration officials.
He may be a good Conservative Senator, but he hasn’t been a very good Kansas Senator and this poll reflects the lack of affection for him. I haven’t seen much evidence that he has gotten serious about campaigning. He’s running out of time, he needs to get in gear.
Orman is an empty suit with lots of baggage, but no one has laid a glove on him yet and the Kansas City Star is working hard to turn him into a rock star.
They've been trying. So far it hasn't gotten any traction.
Good!
Roberts in a RINO and the Republican Establishment attacked and defeated his conservative challenger.
Since the GOPe decided to “crush” conservatives, we have no obligation to vote for their candidates.
Apparently they're taking it out on Gov. Brownback too.. he's behind by a chunk of pts. as well. I'm thinking this purported "GOP wave" is more a show of anger at incumbents in general.
I should ask him what it was like talking with Richard Nixon >:(
He has been in office since my Parents were children.
I have had enough of this with Republicans. We slink back to our abusers because we are afraid of the big bad democrats will be worse, when voting for the same GOPer's over and over and over again causes these problems.
