'GREAT Escape actor Angus Lennie died last night in a nursing home in Acton, London, aged 84.

Glasgow-born Lennie featured in a number of roles across film and television, including the long-running ITV soap Crossroads.

But he was best known for playing Flying Officer Ives "The Mole" in the classic wartime escape drama.

Alongside him in that legendary film were Steve McQueen, James Garner and Richard Attenborough among other big actors. It comes less than a month after Attenborough, who played Big X in the Great Escape, died aged 90.

Lennie's film career also saw appearances in 633 Squadron, Tunes of Glory and 1969 musical Oh! What a Lovely War.'

A personal question,Scotsman...assuming you’re planning to vote on independence can you tell us of how you’ll vote? It’s obviously OK if you won’t answer.

I loved him! I remember his performance in my favorite “war” move - “Tunes of Glory.” What a lovely actor.

I am voting NO. A strong Scotland in a strong UK.

Problems that need fixing can be fixed in a UK without separation. I am voting NO for many reasons, across cultural, political, economic, social issues.

In short, I am a very proud Scot, but I am also very proud to be British and I am no nationalist.

James Coburn and Charles Bronson are also gone. I cannot come up with a name of anybody who starred in The Great Escape who is still alive.
