The American who tore up his own tourist visa on landing in North Korea and demanded to be arrested so that he could experience prison life in the communist nation has been sentenced to six years hard labor for entering the country illegally to commit espionage.

Matthew Miller, 24, of Bakersfield, California, looked thin and pale at his trial in Pyongyang on Sunday, as he was handed out his sentence.

Miller, who looked thin and pale at the trial and was dressed completely in black, is one of three Americans now being held in North Korea.

He’s in for a world of hurt. He won’t likely survive unless he’s given some special treatment.

A fool and his torn-up tourist visa are soonest parted.

Words to live by.

he will love his ounce of rice a day

I don't think he'll be often be seeing quantities like that.

Perhaps on holidays, maybe his birthday, for good behavior.

Given his condition, I’ll be surprised he survives a week on hard labor.

He’s good as dead. Good riddance to that piece of America-hating lefty trash.

This is the first I’ve read that this dipwad wanted to “experience...north Korean prisons”. I thought and read when he was first arrested that he asked for political asylum. Well, he is about to enjoy their version of it.

Perhaps he should’ve read “Dear Leader” or “Escape from Camp 14”, first. God help him if he is sent to Camp 14.

Yes, Virginia, there really is a penalty for being stupid.

Who wants to experience a North Korean prison?

Its bizarre, really. Sane people don’t demand to be locked up.

Back in 1977 I was appointed as the USMC observer for a Marine being tried in an Okinawan court from “rolling” a drunk. (idiotic move on his part) IIRC, he got 2-3 years

Word was that if you wanted to survive that long in an Okinawa prison, you needed family to bring you extra food. Not sure if the Corps sent him “C-rats”... or if the State Dept got him transferred to Leavenworth.

You raise a good point. How long will he live in a NK prison doing hard labor, meager rations, and little if any medical care.

A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're fast asleep
In dreams you lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep

Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbow will come smiling through
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
the dream that you wish will come true

Miller, who looked thin and pale at the trial...

And he hasn't even been to real prison yet.

He probably expects to come back, write about his experiences in an NK work camp, and become a millionaire.
