John McCain: I’ve Vetted Syrian Rebels, People Not Trusting Them Making ‘Excuses’

One concern about President Obama‘s counterterrorism strategy against ISIS is the plan to arm moderate Syrian rebels to fight the terrorist group. Arming moderate rebels was a contentious debate last year in the national fight over how to deal with President Bashar al-Assad, but now a new enemy is inspiring the calls for action. John McCain, in one of his rare TV appearances, said on Fox News today that anyone saying they mistrust the Free Syrian Army is just making excuses for not taking action against ISIS.

McCain touted that he’s “vetted a number of them because I know them.” It was at that point Fox aired the infamous photo from last year of McCain and a few Syrian rebels, two of which turned out to be suspected kidnappers. This led to Rand Paul taking a shot at McCain and illustrating this as an example of why it’s hard to properly vet Syrian rebels.

McCain said today, “Hundreds and even thousands of them have been killed and slaughtered with these barrel bombs and tortured to death by Bashar Assad. They can be trusted. There are groups of them to be trusted.”

Just so it’s clear...

O’Bagy has ties with the “rebels” working to overthrow Assad, rebels who receive funding from the State Department, and she is paid by a neocon think tank.

Clear as mud.

Then there’s Mouaz Moustafa, head of the Syria Emergency Task Force. Also was head of Libyan Council of North America. Also “worked with rebels” in Egypt.

“Arab Spring” was/is an operation run out of Obama’s State Department and the CIA.

The playbook being used in Syria is the same one used in Libya. The US facilitates the shipment of arms from Qatar and Saudia Arabia to “rebels”, and the US supplies the air power. Libya was overthrown and now is run by various islamist factions. The US is supplying rebels in Syria to overthrow Assad. If/when that happens ISIS will move in.

I think you make good points there. I understand where you are coming from on all of it, and I agree that you’re addressing real issues there with decent comments.

I expect this sort of thing. What I don’t expect is for our own people to fall for the trashing of J. D. Hayworth the way they did in 2010. With McCain’s history, even if J. D. was as bad, it would have been better to send him in, because he wouldn’t have had the seniority to be respected enough to lead everything off track like McCain always does. And Hayworth was a decent man.

Did he have some flaws? Yes, but compared to McCain’s, his were scrapes instead of a head bashed in or a saber through the heart.

So let the big money do what it does. You can overcome that. You can’t overcome stupid.

You could put a weeks supply of food and water in the bottom of a pit and tossed in even some of our own in 2010, and they would have starved in three days.

You can’t fix that. Folks have got to use their heads.

McCain, Obama, Clinton, Kerry, the lot of them are traitors.

The federal government is openly, blatantly stuffing it in your face.

Arming Al Qaeda is TREASON. That's no rhetoric - it's a fact.

REMEMBER?

Conservatives love to fight one another far more than the love to fight democat fascists.

That's the root cause of the problem. Just like Puritans vs Methodists, Fundamentalists vs Southern Baptists, fighting over who is more pure and perfect is the real focus of Conservatives in this country, not winning elections and squaring away the country.

Look back at when Gingrich and DeLay were actually standing for something and making changes, where was the mass ground roots support for those two when the democrat fascist media cranked up? Even if the charges against them had been in part true Conservatives should have demanded the guy from their district stand up to the democrat liars and not let the democrat thugs drive them from office.

Republicans were capable of cleaning their own horse stalls and should have fought tooth and nail against the democrat media lies. But, nope, Nada, zip, no united defense of them because "Conservatives" were happy to have their own guy get a bit better seat at the pig trough instead of standing up to the democrat liars so Republicans would stay the course and actually fix the system. People couldn't agree on whether or not Gingrich and DeLay were "pure" enough so they were happy to yield the battlefield to the democrat scum without a fight thereby halting the changes that had only just begun.

Since Gingrich and DeLay, you're right, even the "Conservatives" don't stand for anything and would rather attack one another for not going along to get along than fight the democrat machine. That's the only way they can get, "the folks back home" to keep supporting them. Any of them who grow a spine suddenly have as many "Conservatives" anxious to lynch them as there are democrat fascist trying to lynch them.

I agree 100%.

They all disgust me. We talk about how breathtakingly stupid our elected reps are-and yes, quite a few of them really are-but I believe some of them are stupid by design to look like they are just ignorant fools while they forward their evil agenda.

It’s time now.

(half past Claire Wolfe)

We are at the awkward stage watching helplessly as they burn our house down around us.

We already have little sharia enclaves here.

If this really was still a nation of laws that would never have happened.

I believe islam is the beast religion of the last days.

The one that will deceive so many.

Look how many great and small are already deceived.

Thanks for that post and link to the article, but the article and your understanding of the issue is superficial. Let me lead you thru it.

O'Bagy is a NeoCon, but only a "run of the mill PNAC type" or "junior member of the NeoCon foreign policy establishment".

The Institute for the Study of War is a NeoCon group led by Kimberly Kagan, a prominent NeoCon. She is the wife of Fred Kagan who is the brother of Robert Kagan, both of who are also prominent NeoCons, and have served as professors at the War College and West Point.

Several of the men associated with the Syrian Emergency Task Force attended and spoke at the 2012 GOP convention in Tampa. That is where the policy shift on Syria began.

Thru-out 2011 and 2012 the NeoCons and the liberal interventionist democrats wanted to intervene in Syria but the Realists and Obama were opposed. But after the 2012 convention, there began a slow shift among the Realists and by the spring of 2013 Bob Corker(minority chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee) shifted his position to support arming the rebels. So we can say that the NeoCons, the Liberal Interventionists, and the Realists all voted to arm the rebels(15 votes). But the 2 antiwar dems and the isolationist Rand Paul voted no(3 votes)

Then later in the year the issue of bombing Syria came up but that turned into a political hot potato so when the Senate Foreign Relation Committee voted it passed only by a vote of 10-8, but it passed.

John McCain is a Neocon and you can focus on him or point your finger at him but it is really a foreign policy doctrine issue. So on any and all foreign policy issues, where do the NeoCons(including John McCain) stand? Where do the Liberal Interventionists stand? Where do the Realists stand?

McPain: Since your war record alone does not make YOU “vetted” as a politician, or as anything else, why is anyone supposed to believe you are capable of vetting anyone in Syria - just because you believe what some Syrian said to you?

R.Reagan said “trust and verify” and we neither trust you nor find you have VERIFIED anything about the “Syrian opposition”.

#14 That is Ambassador Stevens (to the right of McCain) who was murdered by John McCain and obama and Hillary Clinton as they support the terrorists. They were willing to see over 40 Americans die so weapons to be given to the terrorists!!

Early 2012 the CIA was organizing shipment of arms from Qatar and Saudi Arabia through Turkey to “moderate Syrian rebels”[1]. September 2012 Petraeus was visiting Turkey to “vet” and “shape” the Syrian opposition.[2]

This was well before Obama’s “red line” (Assad’s alleged use of chemical weapons)

For the past several years we’ve been hearing various justifications for arming Syrian rebels. Now the justification is to combat ISIS, in the past is was alleged Assad used chemical weapons.

In June 2013 Obama said Assad used chemical weapons, the he had crossed the “red line”, and that therefore the US was justified in training and arming moderate Syrian rebels.[1] Yet in early 2012 the CIA had been working with Turkey to arm these groups and in September 2012 Petraeus was visiting Turkey to “vet” and “shape” the Syrian opposition.

This raises the question of just how legitimate was the “red line” justification for arming the Free Syria Army.

For some reason Obama has wanted to overthrow Assad for several years and has come up with flimsy excuses to do so.

Aug 1, 2012

President Barack Obama has signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for rebels seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government, U.S. sources familiar with the matter said.

Obama's order, approved earlier this year and known as an intelligence "finding," broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the rebels oust Assad.

Since at least early 2012 the US has been covertly supplying weapons to Syrian "rebels"

The main thing is McCain - and everyone - KNOWS, and have known for years, that arms supplied to “Syrian rebels” are supplied to ISIS a.k.a. Al Qaeda.

To continue arming these “rebels” is aid to the enemy - treason.

Since at least early 2012 it’s been publicly reported that Free Syria Army is Al Qaeda.
