Kerry 'taken aback' by James Foley's mother's reaction to handling of case

The U.S. government Friday defended its handling of James Foley's case after the slain journalist's mother told CNN that officials suggested the family could be charged if they tried to raise money to free him. Saying everything possible had been done to bring the journalist home, State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters officials worked very closely with Foley's family and with his employer, GlobalPost CEO Philip Balboni.

"Any advice that this department or other departments give to the families about what they should do in these situations is based solely on what is best for returning their loved one home, period," Harf said during a sometimes testy exchange with reporters. "Any accusation to the contrary is flatly wrong."

"It's part of our job to help the family understand what our laws are about ... " she said. "But this department would never, and did not ever, intend to, nor do we think we ever did anything that we would consider threatening" the family over a possible ransom.

You could have traded another batch of senior level terrorists from GTMO like you did for Bergdhal.

Yes, the White House is indeed an outlaw organization. That Five Terrorist Chieftans for the price of one semi-berserk deserter is treasonous, and can never be justified.

Didn’t he serve in Viet Nam?

I think he was in a boat and caught a ricochet. Got a medal. Threw it back. Testified in front of Congress in a uniform he didn't deserve to wear.

Harf cited Balboni's statement regarding the ransom demand, while reiterating that under anti-terrorism laws in the United States it is illegal to negotiate with terrorists, such as ISIS.

Well, you could have fooled me...said the five Gitmo terrorists walking free as birds...

"I think our efforts to get Jim freed were an annoyance" to the U.S. government, she said in the interview that aired Thursday. "It didn't seem to be in (U.S.) strategic interest, if you will."

Yeah, too bad we did not celebrate of nations birth on June 4th instead of July 4th Jim Foley might have been rescued...

My God, these people make me sick...

ISIS is killing reporters and the Obama Administration is lying to them... any chance they'll wake up?

Our government let our Libyan ambassador die at the hands of Jihadists.

If my loved ones were held by Muslim yahoos, I wouldn’t trust Obama to bring them home either.

He was more than a war protester.

American Patriots Against John Kerry

The 1970 meeting that John Kerry conducted with North Vietnamese communists violated U.S. law, according to an author and researcher who has studied the issue.

Kerry met with representatives from “both delegations” of the Vietnamese (North Vietnamese and Viet Cong) in Paris in 1970, according to Kerry’s own testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on April 22, 1971. But Kerry’s meetings with the Vietnamese delegations were in direct violation of laws forbidding private citizens from negotiating with foreign powers, according to researcher and author Jerry Corsi, who began studying the anti-war movement in the early 1970s.

According to Corsi, Kerry violated U.S. code 18 U.S.C. 953. “A U.S. citizen cannot go abroad and negotiate with a foreign power,” Corsi told CNSNews.com.

By Kerry’s own admission, he met in 1970 with delegations from the North Vietnamese communist government and discussed how the Vietnam Warshould be stopped.

She said “Foley’s family, just like the soldiers who served with Bergdahl, are lying or don’t know what really happened.”
