Republicans Mum on ISIS Until They Can Attack Obama's Plan
The Wire ^ | 9/9/2014 | Russell Berman

Posted on 09/10/2014 9:18:28 AM PDT by Jim from C-Town

Republican congressional leaders are deflecting the tough questions about the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria until they hear President Obama's plan for defeating the terrorist group.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) was repeatedly pressed by reporters Tuesday about whether he believes U.S. ground troops are needed in the Middle East and whether Congress needed to authorize an expanded military campaign.

I must have missed the part where Barry’s minions consulted with GOP leadership, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, or the Armed Services Committee on ISIS...or even briefed any of these groups.

The GOP Leadership typically learns of military action...AFTER it occurs, from this bunch. They are completely out of the loop.

What are they supposed to do - go on the Sunday talk shows and talk strategy?

Well, if I must, here’s the plan:

1. Immediately destroy all US equipment in ISIS hands.
2. Cede no more ground - any ISIS movement should be countered with a B-52
3. Be a leader in the world, and tell the world in clear terms that ISIS is an enemy...and aiding them makes you our enemy. Other nations (think Qatar) should immediately revoke passports, give Interpole all available info of know ISIS, freeze bank accounts, interdict all bogus charity money going to ISIS.
4. Challenge Turkey as to whether or not they want to be in the 21st Century or the 7th Century. Either they quit letting European jihadis infiltrate Syria through their border, or they are on the outs. We should encourage all European nations to cancel all construction dal swith Turkey, if they don’t play ball.

The list goes on...along the lines of an ancient lib president, who said it doesn’t really matter what you do, but at least do something.

Commietards on Facebook are still shouting “Bush’s fault!”. Somehow Libya was his action too even though Hillary Clinton took all the credit for the warcrime torture, abuse, and murder of a POW named Momar Gaddafi.

This is what typically passes for journalism these days.
The writer blast Republican for not presenting their solution.
Of course if they had this same writer or others would have writtne a story that the Republicans were just muddying the waters and making it difficult for Obama.

This is a case of post obfuscation of perceived criticisms of possible actions Obama may or may not get around to, after whatever golf game he is playing.

Does this weak crap intimidate you into silence?

The left cannot make up their minds... either the GOP is using ISIS to scare Americans or they are mum on ISIS? Which is it?

I know this is typical whinging liberal claptrap, but seriously - who has a specific and realistic plan to go forward? I hear a lot of conceptual crapola and a lot of "what we should have done in years past" blather.

But here we are, what's the plan?

I expect nothing substantive or useful from Obama tonight, but can I expect something different from a potential GOP leader?

Her main theme last night was that it's the job of Congress, not the president, to come up with a plan to combat IS

She's half right. Congress HAS an important, indeed vital job to do, and this is it:

JOINT RESOLUTION Declaring that a state of war exists between the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria and the Government and the people of the United States and making provisions to prosecute the same.

Whereas the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria has committed unprovoked acts of war against the people of the United States of America:

Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the state of war between the United States and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria which has thus been thrust upon the United States is hereby formally declared; and the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States.

Whatever the unconstitutional "War Powers Act" says or doesn't say, the awesome War Power of the United States belongs to Congress, that is to say, to the People and the States of the United States acting through their Representatives in Congress assembled.

It does not, it cannot, belong to the Executive.

Notice that the December 8 1941 Joint Resolution directed the President what was to be done, in general terms.

Congress should direct Obama to make war on ISIS. If they had that power in 1941, and if FDR could not act on his own, the same most certainly applies now.

So legislators have to propose a military strategy

Yes, that's exactly what they have to do.

The strategy they must propose is : The People of the United States declare war on ISIS, and the Congress directs the President to wage war using the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force and Marines until victory is won, and Congress promises the resources to attain victory.

They did it in 1941. They can do it again.

Yes, Congress should direct the president to do something. However, the strategy on what to do and how is up to the commander in chief.

Most Americans already believe that something needs to be done to stop IS. What Obama is doing is trying to blame Congress for his lack of a strategy. Congress could never come up with a detailed war plan, strategy or anything like that without getting bogged down in political bickering. That's why their role is simply to tell the president to deal with it and give him funding. There's no debate really that something needs to be done, so the ball is in Obama's court now. But, I believe he wants us to believe that the details are Congress' responsibility, and therefore he's blameless for not having a strategy.

A. I am a Republican with a bend towards the Tea Party.
B. I hope to high Heaven Our leader has a plan to destroy IS (lets give it its real name—Islamic State.
C. I root for him to smash this new threat he was partly responcible for making.
D. I don’t live in the past—IF he has a plan—I will back him to defend the nation. If its all empty words and just a speech-—I will rake him over the coals.
E. I reserve judgement until I hear his words.

I've lost all trust in him. He can't change his nature. I don't support him in any military endeavor because he will sacrifice the troops to meet his personal ends.
