I’m glad you chimed in - I went to bed last night while people were still raging at me, lol.
I think you can love Lincoln, love your father and love books without seriously baiting people from the south. It disturbs me - as you say, the people from that region are the most committed to conservative values and tradition. If America survives, it will be the southerners who pull us out of our mess. That is, if it doesn’t all become blue due to people from blue states moving there, of course.
In response to your ping, I must plead ignorance. I have, of course, heard of Mark Levin, but I am not a listener. Since he has largely identified with a Conservative/Libertarian viewpoint, I am frankly amazed if he is ignorant of the Southern roots of the American Conservative/Libertarian tradition. From Jefferson & Madison through to the Harry Byrds in Virginia, that tradition has always had a distinctly Southern flavor.
It isn't just a matter of strict construction on Constitutional issues. Even in the Confederate Army, there was an individualistic flair, that showed in both the dashing heroism of the Jeb Stuarts & in individually designed uniforms of some of your more flamboyant officers.
Those somewhat Conservatives like Glen Beck--and for that matter the late William F. Buckley, frankly appear to feel (& have felt) the need to not stand fast with the Southern Conservatives, lest they alienate fanatic South haters in the Media & Academia. This is very sad, for they not only turn on those who would be their true friends, but undermine the intellectual consistency & hence integrity, of the philosophic principles that they otherwise support.
Having deliberately engaged in the Academic experience at one of the most consistently Leftist/Egalitarian Colleges (Oberlin) for my four year undergraduate experience, I can personally verify that not buying into the apologetic repudiation of American history is by far the most effective course in fighting the Left.
Those who attack the Old South--which was clearly the most tolerant region of America from first settlement through the terrible unpleasantness of the 1860s--do not show their objectivity, rather something far less appealing. far less effective, which can only undermine the strength of the position to which we all subscribe.

All of this bears repeating---so does the rest of your post, actually.
The only two talk hosts I ever listen to are Mark and Rush; Levin has always been my favorite, by far. But the other night I tuned in after a long stretch of not listening, and it was "neo-confederate" this and that.
I'm not Ray Rice's wife; I'm not going to sit here and listen to South bashing and pretend I like it. I promptly switched Mark off. It's very disappointing that he's taken this route.
I'll echo that.
