Phila. schools to offer free meals to all students (Applications Not Required)

All Philadelphia School District students are now eligible to receive free meals, officials said Thursday.

Students must simply show up to receive the free food - applications are no longer required.

"Our goal is to provide as many students as possible with access to healthy, nutritious meals," Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. said in a statement. "We want to keep students' focus on learning, not hunger."

A shift in federal policy means that school systems with at least 40 percent of students living in poverty can now apply to offer universal free meals.

Local school systems in Texas are doing the same thing.

Getting local and state governments away from the federal government trough is hard.

I keep plugging away.

The cost to keep track of who is getting subsidized meals. who is brown-bagging and who is paying (and behind in payments) is most likely more than just feeding all the kids.

They probably expect lots of illegals too.
I wonder how many kids will just show up to eat?

Ticks me off also. And then they throw half the stuff away. About the only thing we got from the school was the DA milk otherwise it was water if you didn’t have the 10 cents for the week. If you got lucky a bologna sandwich otherwise it was PBJ and the jelly was grape because it was cheaper.

Needless to say we didn’t get obese but we sure as heck didn’t starve to death either.

It would be far more efficient for schools to ask for churches or private charities to come in and feed the children, and it would also have the added benefit of not stealing money from people who don’t want to spend money on feeding children. This was one of the many goals the Left had in mind when they invented their degenerate concept of “the separation of church and state”; they need worthless bureaucrats drawing a salary and voting Dementocrat.

Ok, ugh!

Someone produces the food, someone packages it, someone stores it, someone ships it, someone distributes it, someone sells it, someone serves it, someone records the distribution and someone cleans it up

They ALL get paid

It IS NOT FREE

If a mom were to get up and put some leftovers or a little rice and beans into a recyclable covered dish, then it would be practically free, but it is not free

And if my kids did not report that the kids on the “free meal” deal were the ones with the best phones and iPods it would not be as galling

But it IS NOT FREE!

But then the government could not hire a bunch of bureaucrats to administer the problem and cronies to provide the food services..

I did have to mention to one wit that was commenting about 'free food' that it was 'no cost' to them, but the food damn sure wasn't free.

She stormed off like a herd of elephants.

I mean that literally. The building shook.

You have to be able to read and write to apply. And applications can be tracked.

I remember when school was about learning the three 'R's ...

So now, it is about 'free' meals and a drive through 'education'. (This way, there won't be incentive to brown-bag it and the food intake of all the kids can be controlled. We wouldn't want the kids to eat anything her hindness didn't approve of--for the rest of us, of course.

Oh... They act so pissed. It is a blockade to communication; a veritable stalwart of ignorance

And zero Ebonics sense

They think ( feel) that the government can print money without collapsing the economy and risking natl security

It still doesn’t make that lunch free

Right?

And I cheat.... Rotten bastard that I am.... I'm pasty white, and usually wearing at least one piece of clothing that shows my last unit identification.

And my grandchildren are of color.... that just kills their narrative when a dark skinned baby walks up and calls me grandpa. ;)
