Hate to break the news to FR but, we all have it backwards. The current batch and majority thought of republicans IS Republican, GOP etc. The only RINO’s now are those on FR who cant get behind the moderate politics of the GOP. Let’s face it we are no longer the base, we have cast aside for Progressive GOP politics.

“Other than a writers desire to try to embarrass the Bush family this is a worthless article.”

Why on earth would this embarrass them?

The girls are not girls any longer. They make their own voting decisions along with their husbands. Keep in mind, many people change affiliations over a lifetime, and may do so just to satisfy a curiosity. During their dad’s presidency, they would have caused major upheaval or been branded as a useful idiot for the Dems, sort of like Ron Reagan Jr., who looks down on all his father believed in.

Biggest mistake Reagan ever made was bringing this family out of the political obscurity and record of failure they so richly deserved.

He should've picked Kemp. Though, the estblishment probably would have destroyed them both.

Reagan also surrounded himself with Bushies, betraying the movement that put him in office. There was no Reagan Revolution after 1982. As far as I'm concerned, we've had Bush administrations 1983-2014.

He didn't officially say he's pro-gay marriage, but what other conclusion can you draw to the fact the only politics he mentioned were to say that pro-marriage people are mean.

I suspect he was never against abortion or gay marriage, but he knew he couldn't be publicly so. He never did anything on abortion except a few symbolic gestures, just to keep up appearances.

Big deal. I’m not a Republican (any longer) either. What sane conservative would be?

Half-right. The GOP has NEVER been conservative. Conservatives ARE the RINOs and always have been. I've never liked that term.

It certainly ranks up there with:
  1. Appointing Sandra Day O'Connor to the Supreme Court.
  2. Signing off on the 1986 Amnesty for illegal aliens.
  3. Putting the U.S. Marines in those unprotected barracks in Beruit (what Reagan himself said was the worst decision of his presidency).

However, in Reagan's defense, it seemed like the only viable option at the time to unite the RINO wing and the Conservative wing of the party. The primary focus was getting Carter out of the White House and that much it accomplished.

I agree that it was a mistake to name George H. W. Bush as VP, I don't agree with the political obscurity idea. IIRC, Bush-41 was known as Mr. Resume because he had held so many positions. He was well-enough known and with enough support to wage a reasonably solid primary campaign against Ronald Reagan.

Thank you for referencing that article EveningStar. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

Just because somebody is a Republican doesn't mean that they know anything about the federal government's constitutionally limited powers, particularly the few powers listed in the Constitution's Section 8 of Article I.
