As someone who has covered local government, chickens are the single most emotional issue I’ve ever dealt with. People love their chickens.
A “chicken on the loose”. Good grief.
40 years ago, people would have been well associated with chickens in the neighborhood unless they lived in a city. My city allows chickens and my neighbor has a dozen. No noise, no mess, no fuss.
If a chicken were to get out, I would contact my neighbor, or failing to do that, attempt to get the chicken back in his yard. I wouldn’t be calling the police about a “chicken on the loose”. That like calling about a squirrel or rabbit “on the loose” in your yard.
The officer was in fear of his life.
It is almost impossible not to love a flock of chickens.
