The Hollywood Reporter ^ | September 2, 2014 | Paul Bond

Chris Wallace celebrated his 50th anniversary in the news business this summer. The biological son of legendary 60 Minutes reporter Mike Wallace got his start as a 16-year-old assistant to Walter Cronkite, a job he landed courtesy of his stepfather, future president of CBS News Bill Leonard. As the host of Fox News Sunday, Wallace has seen his overall viewership spike 20 percent year-over-year to 1.22 million per episode in August. Wallace spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the changes he has seen over five decades and the coverage of today’s biggest news stories.

When did you decide to become a journalist?

I was a week away from starting Yale Law School and I also thought about government service. But I guess it’s in my DNA, so I went to work as a reporter for the Boston Globe.

Why do they call him the “biological son” of Mike Wallace rather than just the son? Were his parents married?

How do you respond to the charge that Fox News is biased to the right?

We’re providing fair and balanced coverage, and part of that is because many of the other networks are tilted to the left, and we provide both sides of the story. … I defy anyone to watch Fox News Sunday and say the show tilts right or left. We’re equal opportunity inquisitors.

Wallace apparently doesn't read Alas Babylon!'s Sunday Morning Talkshows thread on FR. FoxNews gets as many jibes as the 'liberal' networks. Wallace does allow his biases to show through. Even Brit Hume has turned to the left in his semi-retirement.

People at D.U. say that the N.Y.T. is “right leaning”.

Wiki:

Wallace was born in Chicago, Illinois. He is the son of Mike Wallace, longtime CBS 60 Minutes reporter, and Norma Kaphan.[1] Both his parents were Jewish.[2][3] His parents divorced when he was one year old. He grew up with his stepfather, future CBS News President Bill Leonard.[4] He did not develop a relationship with his biological father until the age of 14.[5] Leonard gave him early exposure to political journalism, hiring him as an assistant to Walter Cronkite at the 1964 Republican National Convention.

Some will have fond memories about Ferguson when the Race Clown Circus came to town.

If Walter Cronkite isn’t a communist, he’s the next best thing. Same goes for his replacement.

Never knew Mike and Chris didn’t see each other until Chris was 14.

In June 2009, Cronkite was reported to be terminally ill. He died on July 17, 2009, at his home in New York City, at the age of 92.

Walter Cronkite, most trusted man in America, was as commie as they come.

What was your feistiest interview?

Without question, Bill Clinton in 2006. An ABC docudrama, The Path to 9/11, had just come out and it was critical of his handling of the Osama Bin Laden terror threat. I asked why he hadn’t done more to put Bin Laden and al-Qaida out of business, and he just went off on me

A real tough guy, that rapist.

“It was really cool working for Walter Cronkite.”

.... so that’s where he gets his core. Mostly unwatchable in my mind. Had to turn the show off when he started giving out his soup recipes~ what a dork who thinks he’s the coolest reporter in DC?!

I suppose because the ordinary average schmuck in this nation... you know... voters... are too stupid to be able to recognize the family resemblance.

It’s it comical that even in 1968 the American people were so uninformed and confused that they thought “Uncle Walter” was the epitome of truth and fairness? With the low intelligence level of the American people, it’s amazing the country has survived as long as it has.
