Finnish defence forces announced on Saturday that they are to conduct an unusually large-scale military exercise close to the Russian border next summer.

Up to 8,000 reservist troops from all regiments will take part in training in the border district of Pielinen Karelia in June 2015.

Major Markku Vääntänen said military exercises on this scale are only organised in the region about once every ten years. The training will be the defence forces' principal exercise event next year.

Putin's recent remarks threatening Finalnd and Sweden is pushing them closer to a defensive alliance with NATO as a general war in Europe looms as a consequence of the Russian invasions.

Putin and his supporters, both foreign and domestic, are trying to reconstruct Russian power and recreate the Cold War, and perhaps with an ending more to their liking this time.

This time, “they win, we lose”.

Well I ope they dont join NATO.

These countries need to cut back on their Socialism freebies that they love to brag about so much, and pour money into national defense.

We can certainly give them weapons, but they need to protect their own dirt.

I’m not convinced of that, there are some things that a president can’t just overcome, and NATO and American commitment to it and the United States military’s being intertwined with it, has a weight of it’s own, regardless of what a lame duck president in his last two years can do, even if he secretly supports Putin as you claim.

Why would we hesitate to let in Finland and Sweden?

Because if Russia does attack, then we are on the hook to go to war with Russia with our weapons, while both of those nations get away with spending more money on welfare because they know our guns will have to come in and save them.

If the Fins want to scare the Russians, they need to hold the exercise in the dead of winter and call it something like “Operation White Death.” That would get the Russian's attention.

Russia, like Hitler’s empire, will be destroyed in a full out war. This nuke threat is foolish because I think hundred of nukes in other countries are now programed for Russia. Putin is stupid and better wake up.

If Russia attacks Sweden, then we need to go to war, where is your head at that you want to recreate the USSR and an empire that might defeat us this time?

Do you really want to return to the threat of America and the free world being conquered?

NATO, etal seem to be having very, very little effect on Putin’s revanchist nature to date. But time will tell.

It is time the rest of the world speaks over the head of Putin and his regime directly to the people of Russia to warn them about the dangers that await them along with the rest of the world if they do not immediately act to remove Putin and his regime from power.

NATO has been fairly quiet until now, but now they are placing bases closer to Russia and a new quick reaction force, and as you can see, NATO countries and yet to be NATO countries, are getting serious about the threat of war emerging from Putin.
