The slave trade in East Africa (Kenya, Tanganyika, etc.) is not some ancient historical phenomenon. Kenya only became a colony in 1905, with one main objective being the suppression of the then very active slave trade with the Arabian Peninsula and Northrn Africa.

The Obama Clan are Luo tribesmen. The role of the Luo was as the middlemen in the Arab slave trade. Those of the Luo who accepted Christianity hopefully dropped the business. Those who remained Muslims most certainly did not. The Obama Clan is Muslim.

The Obama (our chap's GGF) arrested by the British was a slave trader, not as has been described, a "Freedom Fighter."

Kenya, being a modern colony and then independent, has very full records, perhaps no longer in Kenya under Odinga, the Obama cousin, but most certainly in Britain. In addition, there are many British ex-colonists about who know the Odinga and Obama Clans and the history of slavery in East Africa quite well. BTW, the Luo make quite an issue of their "Arab Blood." It's largely nonsense and it is quite common for one African Tribe to assert "racial superiority" over other groups by claiming foreign ancestry.
