This week, 68,000 revelers will descend on Nevada's remote Black Rock Desert. (That is, assuming the rain lets up.)
They will travel from Los Angeles, London, Melbourne, Mexico City and places you've never heard of. They will take part in the temporary city that is Burning Man, and will light a giant wooden man aflame.
Despite all of this, Burning Man has somehow gotten a reputation as a "green" event. But that is simply not the case. Make no mistake: Burning Man is bad for the environment.

Look, I am SICK of media and politicians telling us that the things we do are "bad for the environment". The last time the man child went to Asia, I did a calculation of HIS SO-CALLED CARBON FOOTPRINT.
In less than 10 days, he created a bigger "mess" for the environment than I will driving for the next FIVE YEARS.
Crap.
You better go now before they ban it.
Assuming that you are going to take a vacation somewhere, regardless, you’ll probably have a smaller carbon footprint hanging out in the desert than you would doing something else.
On the other hand I always like when the hypocrisy of the Left is exposed.
Get the 2006 movie “THE WICKER MAN” starring Nicolas Cage or the ‘73 version, same name, starring Edward Woodward..........
Use google images to look at the photos - some are quite stunning.
Yet again, Freepers are getting all bent out of shape because avant garde artists are on the loose. Some of the Burning Man people are actually talented avant garde artists - particularly in their staging of visual events. I should know - my husband’s theater group is out there. We stayed behind because of the heat.
Where did this happen? It wasn't on this thread.
Here Here,
This is at least the third thread started on Burning Man - the other two were filled with the usual condemnation of rich, liberals flying into the desert to smoke pot. If this thread takes off, you’ll see plenty of condemnation on what is actually an interesting myth ‘n ritual event. (Undoubtedly there are jerks there as well, just as there are everywhere.)
people behaving badly
nothing new
Yeah, well, I have vowed to boycott Nevada until the voters no longer have that old woman Reid gone.
Is that Al Gore under all of that body paint?
Liberals do tend to leave a mess.
One burning haystack is bad for the environment? What about all those methane burns going on in ND oil fields - constantly - day and night? One mayor of Seattle banned 4th. of July beach fires because it’d contribute to globul warming.
And sexist! “Burning Person”, just wait for it
BURNING MAN PROTESTERS RETURNING HOME
I hope Mr. Marmelstein has a wonderful time.
Yeah, well, I have vowed to boycott Nevada until the voters no longer have that old woman Reid gone.
