Last week, Sarah wrote about how the Kroger supermarket chain was responding to Moms Demand Action’s petition to ban open carry in their stores. Kroger spokesman Keith Dailey said, "We know that our customers are passionate on both sides of this issue and we trust them to be responsible in our stores."

While it’s from a pro-gun control organization, the Wall Street Journal published a good map from them showing where the open carrying of handguns is legal.

BUT! It would be wise to double check a particular jurisdiction before going out and proving you have a "right" to open carry. And, just because you CAN doesn't always mean you should. Thank you Kroger for following local laws and ordinances. At least for the time being.

somehow I think that map is a little incorrect. Most of New England the socialist states will allow open carry with a permit!!!

Moms Demand Action - Reacting with their lady parts instead of thinking with their brains.

Mostly single mothers, too; I would imagine—That is, if they haven’t aborted the unviable tissue mass.

Still lots of places with local, county, city “rules” and “regulations” that may prohibit and infringe on our/your right to do so. To me, there shouldn’t be anyplace in the country that you couldn’t/shouldn’t carry. But, that being said, you’ve probably been to the range and seen people that you would rather not have weapons. :>} Low to no to poor training just might be a problem in a lot of cases. If you can help rectify it, you should.

NC is open carry. SC is not.

I live 1 mile across NC border of SC. I drive into SC to take advantage of their 33¢ less tax per gallon on gasoline.
Well once I was carrying my a sidearm and as I got out of my truck my shirt was over my pistol. I pumped gas, not thinking about it, until a SC Sheriff deputy came up to me and asked if I had a license. I showed him my NC CCW.
He reminded me that SC was not open carry and understood that my shirt rode up over my pistol as I was driving. He informed me to cover it and gave me my CCW back.

Guess what? I was nice and friendly and thanked the cop for the warning. The cop was nice and friendly and sent me on my way.

See how that works?

Hopefully there won’t be an encounter with another constable who is less accommodating. It’s pretty much okay in NV outside of Vegas. Big gun show a week ago at Grand Sierra Resort and Casino here in Reno. Kinda brought a smile to my face to see folks walking through the casino with all sorts of weaponry. :>} Maybe some out of towners batted an eye but the locals couldn’t have cared less.

>>But, that being said, you’ve probably been to the range and seen people that you would rather not have weapons.<<<

Most ranges have a designated area to have the gun out of the holster.

I help a neighbor of mine that teaches a CCW class. I mostly just make sure the people put their weapons on the gun table when they are waiting to shoot.
His words before the shooting segment of the exam starts:
“if you are caught drawing your weapon and showing it to anyone outside the gun table, to will fail this course. If you cock your wrist sideways and aim your pistol like a gangster, you will fail this course.”

I live in MA. I have a carry permit. I doubt I could walk to the end of the street with my pistol exposed. Someone would call the cops and “poof” my permit would be revoked on the spot.

The reason: yes, open carry is legal. But carrying openly causes a public concern, and I should know that.

I guess I could carry openly if there was an ongoing threat to my safety...but if that were the case the cops would be out of business, so the permit would not matter.

And consider open carry in Boston? You’d end up in jail.

Thats normal around here too. Of course when you get into the town and the shopping districts where the yuppies scurry to and fro, its not common. But out here in the country, its not even looked at twice.

Even if the students have installed the gangsta slide sights on the side of the slide? LOL! I know you’ve seen the satirical ad for them. I don’t have it any longer but I’m sure if someone does and reads this they’ll post it. At the range we go to when a break it called, you may finish your rounds and them MUST leave your empty weapon on the table with the breach open if applicable. The range officers check each table and weapon before allowing anyone beyond the firing line to patch/replace their targets.

this is an excellent example of astroturf.

This is like the anti-nuke groups in the cold war. (ie union of concerned scientists aka communist useful idiots) This group will always have hippie commune rejects who will advocate delusions.

When I finish securing my other permits and licenses to practice Free Speech and other rights under the Constitution, I’ll give this some thought.

But out here in the country, its not even looked at twice.

I always look twice. Sometimes three times. I just like seeing 'em, seeing what's being carried (pistol vs. revolver), and seeing if I can ID it (not usually, but getting a bit better).

Open carry is bad because: What we’ll have is an army of ‘bad’ guys that won’t be recognized as such and jittery cops that can’t determine if you are good or bad.

Pretty soon we’ll look like Iraq and the other hellhole countries!

It does not help our cause!

Open carry is bad because: It will attract those ‘look at me, I’m tough’ idiots. It doesn’t help people who want to just keep their protection on themselves and handy if needed.

It does not help our cause!

Just be aware that federal law says that you must be licensed by the state you are in to carry in a school zone.
