Another Dumb Idea From Los Angeles (paying people to vote)
Investor's Business Daily ^ | August 21, 2014 | Editorial

Elections: The city of Los Angeles is considering paying voters to encourage turnout. Needless to say, it's a ridiculous idea that will reward low-information voting, foster political demagogues and breed corruption.

Sure, some in the political class will say what's not to like? Higher voter turnout sounds good and, more to the point, the political left likely will benefit from paying people to vote.

This is what's done, officially or not, in places like Venezuela, Central America and southern Mexico, where the political class doles the goodies and subliterate voters sell their votes for bags of beans. Lots of left-wing demagogues have been elected on populist waves.

Anything to quicken the collapse into complete insolvency.

I'm sick and tired of hoping that things will turn out OK.

Here's to 500 years of abject despotism and despair!

The dim-bulb-crat party’s success absolutely positively depends on paying people to vote.

Heck, they’re now importing future democrats with promise of pay...and we all know for whom they’ll vote.

Liberalism - when you’ve never had an idea, let alone an original one.

What is the difference between paying people to vote and buying one’s vote?

The politicians are already paying people to vote. This will just transfer the cost of buying votes to—surprise—the taxpayers.

Doesn’t the Democrat party do that already?

The collective IQ of the Los Angeles city council couldn’t best the wind speed of a class 5 hurricane.

There would probably be about half as much warm humid wind though.

In Australia, and a few other countries, they *fine* people for *not* voting.

That’s a smarter approach. Would likely benefit the candidates running on a platform of personal responsibility, i.e. law-abiding conservatives.

(Although from what I remember reading, Australia doesn’t really enforce the penalty.)

Knowing who they would single to pay, absolutely nothing at all.

Imagine a bus driven around by Democrats with a check in their hand. If same day registration were allowed, OMG the possibilities...

I hate these “get out the vote things.
People should have to care enough to figure out how to vote on their own.
Getting registered to vote should be at least as hard as getting a concealed carry permit. Stupid people voting are more dangerous than stupid people with guns.
I wouldn’t even mind a system like in Heinlein’s book “Starship Trooper” where only veterans get to vote.

What else is new? Dem pols are just returning the favor to union members who voted them in in exchange for lucrative contracts.

Hells Bells they’ve been doing this in Hudson County New Jersey(where I was born and raised thanks be to God) for the last one hundred and fifty years. It’s called’’ bribery’’. Yup, Hudson County. The home of the old saying ‘’Vote early and often’’.

This is going in somewhat the opposite direction of having only property owners voting.
