Remember that scene in Minority Report, where Tom Cruise is on the run from the law, but is unable to avoid detection because everywhere he goes there are constant retina scans feeding his location back to a central database? That’s tomorrow. Today, Google is tracking wherever your smartphone goes, and putting a neat red dot on a map to mark the occasion.

You can find that map here. All you need to do is log in with the same account you use on your phone, and the record of everywhere you’ve been for the last day to month will erupt across your screen like chicken pox.

I looked my info up, and oddly it only shows my activities out of state and out of the country. It doesn’t show my (frequent) Google Maps usage around where I live.

If they followed me around, they would be bored to death. It is creepy, but if someone wants to find out about you, there are many ways to go about it. Stalkers just follow people around.

I’m where I’m supposed to be usually and don’t really want people to be able to reach me wherever I am. Don’t want to be plugged in 24/7 to social media and all of it.

Then why is it that when someone steals your phone, you can’t ever find it even when you leave the service running?

Potentially, they have the capacity to keep close track, but do they do it? Even your service provider won’t do it. Police won’t either unless the phone is valued at over $500 in which case it becomes a felony.

Oh it’s doing it. People need to realize that every mobile phone location is tracked in the US. They don’t need GPS, just tower locations.

The Telco? Yes. The NSA? Probably. Google? No.

Oh, and when I go to church, I pull the battery. Not for privacy, but so as not to risk disturbing the Mass.

go to Google maps, hit services>location>location reporting, and set it to off.

You should have to do that to turn it on, not to turn it off.

I keep getting a map to my ‘office’ or to my home on my phone that also gives me an estimated driving time.

I already know where my home and office are, and don’t need this extraneous info, so how can I delete this annoying feature?.

Same here. I hate the damn things. And I hate when people call me from one--half the time I can't hear half the things they're saying. People are morons who use them for important calls unless it's some kind of emergency (and even then they should apologize for using a cell saying they're using it only because there's no land line available).

When people make important calls to me from a cell phone, I have come to automatically view them as a notch lower on the professionalism scale.
