Is Ferguson about class or culture? (Get's down to the real problem behind it all)

And that goes to the heart of the real issue. It isn’t just about class; it is also about culture. There is an attitude in some communities of “you owe me”, an attitude that when one is growing up one’s parents don’t work or are always between jobs, always trying to “get from the man what was taken.” One isn’t encouraged at age 15 to save money and get a job, but rather to “take.” And we saw that attitude in the Michael Brown video where he goes into a shop and takes “what’s his” and throws the elderly owner out of the way.

There are different cultures. There is the culture of the middle-aged owner of that shop, who probably worked from a young age; and the attitude of Michael Brown who stole cigars and pushed those who dared oppose him out of his way.

I saw that growing up in Maine, which is one of the poorer states in the union and is predominantly white. There are sub-cultures of people who never work who are always sitting around drinking and who are in and out of law enforcement “problems.” And there are people who are raised from a young age to work hard.

Was thinking about this subject only this morning...lol

I can see from history where socialist/Marxist reformations took place over time, in countries that had plutocracy/ Autocracies and replaced those with social democracies after quite a bit of death and destruction, but there were exceptions to that rule where a old plutocratic old money system was replaced by a social democracy without firing a shot. That place was Great Britain during the post wwII period.

In the US, we never really developed a plutocracy, must less a aristocracy or autocracy. So in this country they need a visible enemy so they go after the so called rich or 1%ters.

The reason it has been going on so long is that there is really nothing to reform! It’s all BS! And if you wait 4 years, you get a new government or maybe a new president and this takes the wind out of their balloon and they frantically try to reflate it using races, class warfare..whatever they can use, and in the end, it all starts again like resetting the pool table for eight ball.

Meanwhile, the ghettos stay ghettos, and the phony manufactured underclass grows with new migrants feeding in as replacements. Eventually, this all has to die under it’s own weight and when that happens it will not be very pretty. I say that because it will be the phony underclass that is being fostered by the left who will have to at some point, turn against it’s makers, it’s promisors, it’s guarantors.....who have never made good on anything.

This won’t happen until it happens but when it does, I would not give a nickel for their chances of survival, because they will not only have their PO’d sycophants to deal with, but they will have everyone else as well. The US will be in flames.

Call it what you will...a purge, a cleanup on aisle three.

That’s my dream and I am sticking to it....lol

The difference between most of Free Republic and the rest of society is that Freepers are generally self motivated and not group thinkers..

These rioters and frankly speaking much of the liberal world, are all group thinkers, and actors, just like the social cliques in Jr. High. They have their social leaders and what he reads or thinks they adopt...That leader is a member of a bigger clique and they all share the same thinking, and so on, up to their politicians, media, and lauded think tanks.

We don’t do that...we will attack our own, or some of us will when we disagree or we attack each other..lol, so leading us is like herding cats.

I do not see why conservative politicians even try to lead us, but they do from time to time, and I appreciate the efforts. But it’s a near impossible job.

Even Reagan had trouble...

Amazing, that your insight, with liberals- can be mirrored by the GOP effete class. President Ronald Reagan had exactly the same problems, within, he as did without. He was a practical man, with few delusions- yet, his real strength, was within the working class. We have not had any attempt at a sensible approach, since his first term. You must be a GOP stalwart.

There’s a name for that style of parenting, and it’s very common among blacks. I can’t remember the exact name, but I think it includes the the word “terror.” I’ve seen it. All my friends have seen it. The kid is completely out of control for five or ten minutes, and then he gets beaten to a pulp. It’s also common for an 18-month-old to get beaten because “I TOLD her not to do that.” Absolutely no clue about the cognitive abilities of an infant.

Or the parents teach the kids to be thugs. Mrs. Hugin works as a retail manager in a prosperous mostly white town. About ten years ago she was managing a children’s clothing store, and blacks would travel 10-15 miles with their kids to shoplift. In one typical incident a huge black woman comes into the store with a kid about 4 years old. She makes a pretense of looking around, then shows the kid a rack of belts, points to one and whispers “That one”. Then she turns around and pretends to look at other stuff, and the kid takes the belt off the rack, fastens it around his waist and pull his tee shirt over it. Mom then turns around, grabs his had and makes a beeline to the door.

Mrs. Hugin beats her there and says “Excuse me ma’am, but your boy just put a belt under his shirt”.

Of course she starts gyrating her head and talking loudly about how my boy doesn’t steal, you’re a racist, etc. Mrs. Hugin calmly told her “I saw him put it on. Do you to give it to me, or should I call security?”.

Mom pulls up his shirt, whips off the belt and throws it at Mrs. Hugin’s feet, sreams “BITCH!” and walks out. I have to wonder if that kid has murdered anyone yet.

Malthusian. Nature/Nuture comes into play.

I know black men who were raised in Dutch Reformed families who grew up into fine, serious and scholarly men distinguished only by the color of their skin.

These issues are part of a self-perpetuating culture, and reform must arise from within the black community.

Right on the money....was just thinking the same thing. In my travels and living around the world in my military career, I also saw poverty but never the arrogant, lazy, belligerent, hate-filled, gimme-gimme residents that I see here in the US. And I am talking all races and ethnicities. IMHO, the breakdown of the family unit and a strong father figure in the home is the main cause of this culture rot.

Could it be that they truly don’t belong here? They don’t thrive, they aren’t happy instead they are angry a lot of the time with chips on their shoulders and unless talented and/or have the right connections have no real way to dig themselves out of the poorhouse it seems. It does seem as though they are misplaced, fish out of water. I’ve heard it said that black folk in Africa are different and even they do not like the way certain black cultures/attitudes are in the States.

The fact is that children bred for cash (by anyone) aren’t loved or wanted in the same way children born from a loving are; the outcomes will never be the same. Never mind just the basics of feeding or caring for children; does anyone think a mother with what would be comparable to a fifth-grade education really cares whether her bastards learn anything in school, or prepare for a career?

In most urban areas, white liberals have taken it upon themselves to fix the problem by keeping young blacks away from the most destructive place they can be: home with their parent(s). Longer school days (with meals included, and education isn’t even a goal), summer camps, whatever it takes; much of the ire directed at public education today is the result of applying the same Khmer Rouge-like tactics to non-blacks from loving families (with the same enormous costs).

I believe it; they have to travel 10-15 miles because anyone closer knows what to expect. My town (across a river from Newark NJ) has supermarkets and a Wal-Mart frequented by blacks from Newark because nobody would operate one there. The shoplifting has simply come to my town instead; the Anglos in my area shop in supermarkets in towns to the north (and pay higher prices for it) to avoid any contact with those “shoppers”. You can’t get any shopping done around the first of the month; welfare “payday”...(unless you go early - no crowd at all).

Let us refer to the underclass as “welfare herds” going forward; it is an apt description. Ferguson is just a welfare herd stampeded by reckless “leaders”.

Here in NJ we have a Newark herd, a Camden herd, a Jersey City herd (the list is actually endless); we’ll refer to them the way National Geographic refers to lion prides or whale pods...

BINGO!!! Obama’s “You didn’t build that” and all this talk about leveling out the playing field makes these blacks think they are OWED something.

It’s about low IQ, and lack of any cultural, moral and family values.

There is an issue in this country that is not bound by race. It is aggressive emoting. People are being led by their feelings, rather than by reasoning things out. This leads to a lack of adherence to principles and logic.

Once such people are confronted and bested by reason, they will either leave, change the subject, or become violent.

In America, due to the civil war and slavery, our politicians have been afraid of addressing the real problems in the inner cities. They have thrown money at the problem in the form of welfare, food stamps, free medical care, and housing....all the basics that everyone else has to work for.

The ‘ENTITLEMENT’ attitude was born through generations receiving that same care from cradle to grave, and when they sit around with nothing to do but drugs, alcohol, tv, video gamres it gives them time to find an enemy in their minds...so they bite the hand that feeds them, the taxpayer, especially the white ones.

Entitlement mentality breeds discontent, it is never enough, and when they see new cars and nice houses, well...why don’t you give us that too. Of course, no one ever realizes somethings have to be earned. ...worked for.

A few intelligent ones can see the overall picture and seek an education and move beyond the ghetto. We have not taught them that a hand up is not a hand out, we have done too much. Children who get to much, no matter the race, are prone to taking advantage of their parents, grandparents, and are likely to believe they deserve it no matter what the truth is...that’s the defect in human nature.

My grandmother used to say “an idle mind is the devils workshop.” A job would take up that empty space in young minds....welfare should require some volunteer work not just giving out taxppayer money.

I love Maine and often vacation on Penobscot Bay - but friends there tell me the lobstermen have real drug problems. Obviously, not all, but is this true? I know they line up at 7am at Tenant’s Harbor General Store to eat cheap cupcakes and Coca-Cola for breakfast!
