Gov. Perry stripped of his right to conceal carry and buy ammo
Rare ^ | 8-20-14 | Ken Herman (Austin American Statesman)

Posted on 08/20/2014 1:00:47 PM PDT by smokingfrog

For those of you who’ve been sleeping since it happened Friday, Travis County grand jurors indicted Perry on charges of abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant. The first count carries a possible prison term of five to 99 years. The second, two to 10. I’m no expert on law or math, but I believe those potential sentences each exceed one year.

And there’s more. As an indictee, Perry’s state-issued Concealed Handgun License, assuming he still has one — his office didn’t know as of Tuesday afternoon — will be suspended until the case against him is decided. (Cue the cheering coyotes.)

The indictment’s impact on Perry’s gun rights was brought to my attention by a former Democratic state legislator who seemed happy to point it out.

“I’m surprised that you haven’t analyzed the most significant and immediate impact of the governor’s indictment,” ex-state Sen. Steve Carriker, D-Roby, told me in an email including the applicable federal law.

Carriker also was most helpful in providing the official federal “Firearms Transaction Record Part 1” form, which must be filled in by firearms purchasers. Question 11b asks “Are you under indictment or information in any court for a felony, or any other crime, for which the judge could imprison you for more than one year?” (An information is a formal accusation of a crime by a prosecutor.)

For Perry that’s now a big ol’ yes. And yes means no new guns or ammo.

Our upcoming new Lt. Governor Dan Patrick is hell bent on getting the Travis County DA's office out of the political witch hunting business.

AMEN! Preach it! Patrick will be in a position of power to make it happen.

Cornyn knows perzactly what I think of him. I'm surprised I didn't get a visit from guys in dark suits after his single-handed cloture vote work to allow Reid's agenda to move forward.

Hell can freeze over, and I wouldn't vote for Cornyn to {REDACTED}.

I’ll say you are half right. True the speaker and Lt. Governor have more positional power, but the Governor has enough administrative policy powers to direct agency and commission activities to meet needed objectives. That’s a little bit more than a cheerleader IMO.

If Dewhurst wanted to stop something (like open carry) then Dewhurst and his cadre of liberal democrats could do that with help from Straus, and his cadre of liberal democrats.

You're waiting for a long time where a train don't come if you are trying to gin up support for Perry.

Besides, it's way too early for this particular fight. Perry may decide to retire completely.

Right this minute, Perry needs support against the liberals in Austin. I'll give him that.

Amen.... The 2014 senate race was a strategic blunder on behalf of us Texas conservatives. Our inability to find a strong candidate, and then coalesce around them is now going to haunt us in having this turd until Jan. 2021.

As I said in my first post in this thread. I am "all in" for Cruz, but feel a moral obligation to help rescue who I think is an honorable man.

That just means we have 6 years to get it right.

And I mean to.

I will support Perry against the thugs in Austin.

I will not support Perry for a presidential run (or dogcatcher, or anything else).

I would do the same if he was the Dem he started off as.

We've got a conservative governor incoming, with former AG Gregg Abbott.

Amen, and this latest libtard indictment on Perry is really an attempt at throwing political mud at Abbot. Wendy Davis is actively involved in this scheme. The Austin leftist mafia will string this out all the way to election day. This is just the initial strike. The next ones will be aimed directly at Abbot, IMO. We can expect a series of these litigious attacks over the next few months designed to associate Abbot with Perry/Dewhurst/Straus in order to diminish his popularity with voters.

So you aren't going to answer my question about what happens between initial intake and trial?

Are citizens generally required to give up their Constitutional rights to bond or bail out?

So, between initial intake and trial, there is no requirement for drug tests, giving up firearms, or any of that?

You are saying that's what most people don't have to do?
