Syria bombs jihadist positions in Raqa for second day

Syrian war planes bombed positions belonging to the jihadist Islamic State group in the northern province of Raqa for a second day on Monday, a monitoring group said.

On Sunday, regime planes killed 31 jihadists and eight civilians in an unprecedented wave of aerial bombardment against the group in its Raqa bastion.

The bombing continued on Monday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, with at least 14 raids against jihadist positions.

There was no immediate death toll in the renewed bombing.

Three raids targeted the area around the town of Tabqa in western Raqa and four hit near the Tabqa military airport, the only remaining regime-held position in the province.

The other seven strikes hit sites inside Raqa city, the provincial capital.

The raids involved the use of precision weapons rather than the explosive-packed barrel bombs that the regime has deployed to deadly effect in Aleppo province and elsewhere.

Barrel bombs have been criticised for being indiscriminate and killing civilians.

The Syrian raids come as the United States carries out air strikes against the Islamic State just across the border in neighbouring Iraq.

I hate to consider it, but perhaps in this case, the enemy of our enemy, is our friend.

Why should we consider Assad an enemy just because he is a dictator?

Muzzies wouldn’t appreciate and couldn’t cope with democracy — they say they want a caliphate.

Support Assad and the Kurds.

wait a minute!!!

according to the narrative being spun by the state dept as well as places like the editorial board of the WSJ (neocon), Assad is responsible for the growth of these jihadists

that’s a hoot, when, WE are responsible

because it was OUR regime change agenda against Assad that created the “Syrian opposition”, allowed its dominance by the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, winked at our “friends” allowing the jihadists into Syria to help bring Assad down, giving the jihadists a grand opportunity for war and attracting others to join them, DESTABILIZING Syria - which did not have the Sunni jihadist problem Before our regime change agenda kicked off - and now the fruit of OUR efforts against Assad is spilling over into Syria

Syria is an American redo of Afghanistan in the 1980s - our agenda - opposition to the Soviets/Assad - run locally by a local agenda amounting to an Islamist putsch

You know what gets NO MEDIA attention: THESE ARE THE SAME NUTZ that Obama and McCain were going to help in a potential USA-Syria War. At least the germ of their organization.

Precision bombing doesn't kill civilians?

Assad's regime was never our enemy. The problem is the US military has become Saudi Arabia's military.

The US, or any other country, has no business destabilizing and overthrowing (or enabling it to happen) stable governments that haven't waged war on us if they protect their citizens, including minorities.

Well, one of the issues is that apparently he took possession of the chemical weapons that we couldn't find on Saddam. Also, does he not back and fund Hezbollah in Lebanon?

And who do you intend to replace Assad with?

A democratic system? See what happened in Iraq and democracy.

Don’t get me wrong. I was just pointing out that Assad is certainly not a perfect “ally”. He sometimes works for and sometimes against US interests. The fact that he has sent the military to protect Christian communities against ISIS makes him our ally at this point. He is doing a helluva lot more to protect Christians than the Messiah that is for sure.

And that is why we want to keep Assad, unless we find someone better, in spite of what that useless McCain says.
