Report: Armed men attack Liberia Ebola clinic, freeing patients
CBS News ^ | 08/17/2014

MONROVIA, Liberia - Armed men attacked an Ebola clinic in Monrovia, local witnesses told Agence France Presse.

As many as 29 potentially Ebola-infected patients fled, the news agency reported.

"They broke down the doors and looted the place. The patients all fled," said Rebecca Wesseh, who witnessed the attack and whose report was confirmed by residents and the head of Health Workers Association of Liberian, George Williams.

The attack comes just one day after a report of a crowd of several hundred local residents, chanting, 'No Ebola in West Point,' drove away a burial team and their police escort that had come to collect the bodies of suspected Ebola victims in a slum in the capital, Reuters reports. The mob then forced open an Ebola isolation ward and took several patients out, many saying that the Ebola epidemic is a hoax.

Gee, hope these people claiming the outbreak is a hoax got into contact with some of the patient’s blood.

Sounds to me like they were looking for drugs and “freeing” the patients was an excuse.

They broke down the doors and looted the place.

All the rage these days, among certain ethnic groups....

Quarantine all of Africa. Anyone stupid enough to go over there now can just ride it out until this runs its course.

Let the savages run freely among themselves.

As I've said before, just wait until authorities get out into the bush. Suspect many dead were simply hauled off into the jungle or fields and left for animals to drag around. Horrible to think, but that is what city folk are doing to their dead family members. Tossing them out in the street. So as to avoid quarantine for themselves.

Personally I think death toll at present exceeds 2K. If not 3K. And will we ever know?

Pretty wacky given the reality of ebola there.

Either that, or “freeing the patients” was the intent, and the robbery was the excuse. Is there a group which would like to see this plague spreading?

“So as to avoid quarantine for themselves.”

I suspect quarantine is the same as a death sentence, even if there is no Ebola. Most people don’t have sufficient supplies to eat for the required 21 days. Almost certainly there’s no infrastructure or money to give them free food and water. And, what if they don’t have indoor plumbing?

Also, even in the US, a goodly number of people would simply ignore quarantine and go about their daily lives. I’ve known people who were such contrary responders even if they had blood flowing from their eyeballs if you told them they had Ebola they’d insist they didn’t. Now compound this with a well-founded suspicion that the government does not have your interest at heart and you have the recipe for disaster.

We are actually seeing bio-terrorism happening in real time.

RE: Is there a group which would like to see this plague spreading?

Here’s a scenario ... a suicidal and infected “martyr” is promised by al-Qaeda that his family will be taken care of for life if he unleashes himself on the USA via the unprotected Southern border.

He infects hundreds of unsuspecting children on the way.

Border guards process these children not knowing that they have the virus.... and so on and so forth.

CONTAGION !!

Of course, I agree.

But it's only wacky to people who understand germ theory. There is a scene in "Twelve Monkeys" (wonderful movie about a worldwide epidemic) in which a schizophrenic (well played by Brad Pitt) discusses germ theory -- basically, if you went to the 17th century and told people that there are millions of invisible bugs on dirty food and that these invisible bugs could make you sick, they would have called you crazy. But, today, if you drop your food on the ground and pick it up and eat it -- while explaining "I don't believe in germs" -- then they'd call you crazy.

Current Western paradigm is that viruses are bad, and medical facilities are key to fighting disease.
Africa just doesn't seem to buy into the current Western paradigm.

Definite possibility.

Also: classic droplet contagion distance is three feet. But what if an infected patient straps on explosives and aerosolizes himself? Kill 10 people in the explosion, infect 30 people unknowingly, kill 10,000 a month later.

Of course, looting the place of bedsheets and mattresses just might bring its own reward.

Mob Destroys Ebola Center In Liberia Two Days After It Opens

8-16-2014

Fear and denial of the deadly virus are pervasive in Liberia. The mob exponentially increased the risk in one of the country’s biggest Ebola hot spots.

(excerpt)

Jemimah Kargbo, a health care worker at a clinic next door, said they took mattresses and bedding, utensils and plastic chairs.

“Everybody left with their own thing,” she said. “What are they carrying to their homes? They are carrying their deaths.”

She said the police showed up but the crowd intimidated them.

“The police were there but they couldn’t contain them. They started threatening the police, so the police just looked at them,” she said.

And then mob left with all of the patients.

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I’ll start by saying that there are always exceptions to everything but I’ll also add that the good suffer with the wicked.

Africa has got to want to help itself before anyone outside of Africa should ever lift a finger to help Africa. Before that happens, any aid is a waste of time, money and other resources.

If Africa is the cradle of mankind why are they so terribly far behind all other mankind?

I worked in Africa for many years. Long enough to see the character of educated and common and simply ignorant people. They share a common chip on their shoulders with their kin here. They are downright cruel to one another, resentful, filthy, ruthless, dishonest, quarreling, conniving, licentious and often unjustifiably carefree. If they put one half the effort into honest work that they do into failed scams things would be a lot better.

A stark insight on how the residents like those of Ferguson, MO, would react to an epidemic like Ebola.
