Do Gut Bacteria Rule Our Minds? In An Ecosystem Within Us, Microbes Evolved To Sway Food Choices
Science Daily ^ | 15 August 2014

It sounds like science fiction, but it seems that bacteria within us - which outnumber our own cells about 100-fold - may very well be affecting both our cravings and moods to get us to eat what they want, and often are driving us toward obesity.

Research suggests that gut bacteria may be affecting our eating decisions in part by acting through the vagus nerve, which connects 100 million nerve cells from the digestive tract to the base of the brain.

Been known for decades that gut bacteria invented & built cows, because they needed a warm, moist transportation system, and knew they’d never be able to power & drive cars.

The proof is that, although cows ingest it by the ton, they can not digest grass; but the bacteria do eat it, keeping the cow powered with their waste products.

This is just an extension of that.

I like your comment.

Olaf Stapledon-ish.

Mammalian life is a fight against bacteria. Have we tamed them, or are they using us, as you suggest.

Stapledon might be where I first came across it decades ago; it was certainly propounded in a science fiction story or three that I read.

Midichlorians are “microscopic life-forms that reside within the cells of all living things and communicate with the Force

I saw that in some documentaries.

T2 diabetes can often be controlled by avoiding crap food.

Candida is allegedly a culprit in this area thriving on refined sugar consumption. And there’s a market for the supplements that allegedly help to restore the correct balance of gut bacteria. Who knows if the supplements do anything, but I imagine eliminating the refined sugars might go a long way to normalizing one’s ‘ecosystem’.

Tough to do with any processed food. Sugar (one form or another) is in purt'near everything.

(It is the sugar bugs that rule the world! (8^P)

Who knows if the supplements do anything,

It's true we ingest way too much sugar, and I can't vouch for the supplements. Not much of a pill fan, myself.

What I do know is that active probiotics DO work.

For about a year, I've been drinking something called keifer, which is a milk-based probiotic. It's a miracle worker for the digestive system, IMO.

It makes sense, too. Not only are our foodstuffs over processed and over sterilized, but antibiotics are standard treatment for just about everything.

What a lot of people don't think about is that antibiotics kill ALL bacteria...not just the 'bad' ones. Which leaves our bodies depleted of the microbes we desperately need to function properly.

That might encourage the kids to keep them off the floor...and help avoid stray ones at 3 AM...barefoot. (If not, the dog will snap them up!)

Think about the use of ‘anti-biotics’ in beef and daiy cows. A lot of that comes to us.

The best ‘pro-biotic’ I’ve found for me is Yogurt from raw milk.

An amazing side effect is my allergies have all but disppeared.
