If Russia and Ukraine slide into outright war, the United States and allies will face tough choices on how to support a friendly state they have no intention of making a full NATO member.
If Moscow ever took any such action against a NATO member, that would inevitably trigger the alliance's Chapter 5 mutual defense clause, essentially committing it to war. Ukraine, however, is not a member and Western officials say is unlikely to become one any time soon.

It was tragic, the way we nuked Russia for supplying North Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and flying Migs against our flyboys. And fully predictable, when the Russians nuked us for supplying the mujahideen during the Afghan-Soviet War.
You can get wet without nukes
Easy answer. Zero will choose whatever alternative is most detrimental to the US.
Our M.O. is to park a carrier off the coast and bomb missile and artillery sites. Low risk. How many missile sites get hit before Russia tries to sink a carrier? No one we’ve faced in the last, 60 years could make a credible threat against a carrier. Sink one of those and more guys “get wet” (as in sink or swim) than we lost in the 13 years following 9/11. Not low risk. How many Americans can find Ukraine on a map? What was the last think you bought that was Made in Ukraine (mine was beer I didn’t like). In Korea and Vietnam we sent guys to die to free our friends. Most other times it has taken some action against the US to get the people behind and a war. I don’t know if we as a county (whoever is President) to put the requisite skin in this game. Not saying that,it was Regan or Kennedy, or Nixon or Johnson, or Eisenhower or Truman, that it would have come this far.
Ukraine, or at least its present government is pro-American. That disqualifies it from sympathy or effective aid from the US.
