It looks like the “news” part of “news, extended” causes current events to appear as a topic. Maybe tomorrow I will drop the news and enter extended as the only topic and see what happens.
Actually, for me it is sort of like current events. I spent a good part of the day up to my elbows in September 6, 1944, so August 16, 1944 seems quite recent.
Patton and Bradley were classmates at West Point.
I think Bradley liked and admired Patton, while at the same time, not condoning Patton's antics.
I read somewhere that Patton had been senior to Bradley almost their whole career and Bradley couldn't shake calling Patton sir, even when he was the superior officer.
The Ghost Commander of the 3rd Army finally gets his due.

I follow it daily.
We were discussing a recent change where the admin moderator suggested I post the war news in the News/Activism forum instead of Chat/General. PAR35 has been here since the early days.
If you’re a German, those maps are really grim. More black marks representing wishful thinking.
If Steiner attacks, everything will be alright
Thanks for posting the extended quote. Very interesting summary of the incident. It usually isn’t profitable to play what if, but I suspect the fighting would have been ferocious had we gotten even closer to closing the gap. As it turned out, we had forces much closer to Paris when the uprising occurred and the French 2d Armored disobeyed orders and headed for Paris.
Yes. It also looks like the hand of Providence was with us as it appears that the Allies rounded up most of those who got away at the Seine with much fewer casualties than if they had “closed the gap.”
