Thanks for posting the extended quote. Very interesting summary of the incident. It usually isn’t profitable to play what if, but I suspect the fighting would have been ferocious had we gotten even closer to closing the gap. As it turned out, we had forces much closer to Paris when the uprising occurred and the French 2d Armored disobeyed orders and headed for Paris.

Yes. It also looks like the hand of Providence was with us as it appears that the Allies rounded up most of those who got away at the Seine with much fewer casualties than if they had “closed the gap.”
