ISTANBUL Yazidi leaders and emergency relief officials on Thursday strongly disputed American claims that the siege of Mount Sinjar in northern Iraq had been broken and that the crisis was effectively over, saying that tens of thousands of Yazidis remained on the mountain in desperate conditions.
On Wednesday, the United States military said that a small team of 18 Marines and Special Operations soldiers had completed an assessment of conditions on Mount Sinjar and found that most of the Yazidis, a small Iraqi religious minority, had succeeded in escaping, and the numbers remaining were in the low thousands.
American officials said that the assessment meant American airstrikes and humanitarian airdrops, along with efforts by Kurdish pesh merga militiamen, were working and an evacuation mission is far less likely, in the words of the Pentagon spokesman, Rear Adm. John Kirby, on Wednesday.

Well duh
That’s it. He couldn’t stand idly by while these atrocities were commited, so he didn’t. He twitched his pinkie.
So 18 marines were able to evaluate the situation of a 25 mile by 4 mile area in one day. I know they were good, but that good???
Mission accomplished right Barry? By your Executive Order the crisis is over. Is that pied piper music we hear in the background?
we’re protecting/defending/fighting-for satan worshipers now??
i think that pretty much wraps up the list of things to do before acknowledging the flushing of the country is complete.
Did he declare Benghazi a success while he was at it. Perhaps he didn’t want any helicopters shot down by his buddies. Another Blackhawk down would hurt the midterms.
Pray America wakes up
The crisis is Not over & many Yazidis don’t want to leave the mountain cuz the crisis Is Not Over. Get the bloody IS out of Iraq & so that the Yazidis can get back to their homes!
Susan Rice......again.
Hard to do a complete assessment so quickly. Sinjar is actually a very high ridge, 40 miles long.
I would imagine satellites and recon aircraft could get an accurate estimate of how many people are on that mountain. My guess is that the US Forces were there to evaluate the tactical situation. Is there a safe line of egress? Apparently there is to the north. This is good news.
