Iraq’s parliament just chose a new President who refused to rename Prime Minister Nouri Kamal al-Maliki to a third term. Maliki declared the move unconstitutional and his own State of Law Party pulled support from him. Now his forces are seizing government buildings in Iraq, have closed the airport, and are surrounding the Green Zone.

Obama gave direct orders to heave Maliki.

Persident Ebola said so at his brief pre-golf interview at the Whtie house yesterday —

http://www.fresnobee.com/2014/08/09/4062293/obama-to-make-statement-on-situation.html?sp=/99/406/

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Saturday refused to give a time limit on America’s renewed military involvement in Iraq, saying he doesn’t think “we are going to solve this problem in weeks” as the country struggles to form a new government.

“I think this is going to take some time,” he said at the White House before departing for a vacation on Martha’s Vineyard off the Massachusetts coast.

Obama warned Americans that the new campaign to bring security in Iraq requires military and political changes and “is going to be a long-term project.”

The president said Iraqi security forces need to revamp to effectively mount an offensive, which requires a government in Baghdad that the Iraqi military and people have confidence in. Obama said Iraq needs a prime minister — an indication that suggests he’s written off the legitimacy of the incumbent, Nouri al-Maliki.

I believe the New President is Kurdish plus something else. Interesting since the Kurds seem about the the only relatively sane people in the region. I suspect Turkey will have something to say about this....the last thing they want is someone of Krudish origin running things in Iraq.

Prayer for Iraq

O God, who art the unsearchable abyss of peace,
the ineffable sea of love, the fountain of blessings
and the bestower of affection,
who sendest peace to those that receive it;

Open to us this day the sea of thy love
and water us with plenteous streams
from the riches of thy grace
and from the most sweet springs of thy kindness.

Make us children of quietness and heirs of peace,
enkindle in us the fire of thy love;
sow in us thy fear;
strengthen our weakness by thy power;
bind us closely to thee and to each other
in our firm and indissoluble bond of unity:

Syrian Clementine Liturgy (in: For all God’s people; p. 73)

The full text of Patriarch Sako’s prayer for peace follows:

Lord,
The plight of our country
is deep and the suffering of Christians
is severe and frightening.
Therefore, we ask you Lord
to spare our lives, and to grant us patience,
and courage to continue our witness of Christian values
with trust and hope.
Lord, peace is the foundation of life;
Grant us the peace and stability that will enable us
to live with each other without fear and anxiety,
and with dignity and joy.

Glory be to you forever.  Amen.

Litany for Iraq

For lasting peace in this ancient land – From you, O Lord.
For wisdom and compassion for all in authority – From you, O Lord.
For comfort for families separated or bereaved – From you, O Lord.
For the release of captives – From you, O Lord.
For safety and security for minority communities.
For refreshment for the weary and healing for the sick – From you, O Lord.
For continuing faithfulness of the ancient churches of this land – From you, O Lord.
For tenacity of spirit for small Christian groups – From you, O Lord.
For the mutual enrichment and support of those of different Christian traditions – From you, O Lord.

You, Lord of all, we confess;
You, Lord Jesus, we glorify;
For you are the life of our bodies
And you are the Saviour of our souls.

The response in the litany and this hymn both come from the Chaldean liturgy. The ancient hymn celebrates Christ the source of resurrection in all situations of death and deprivation. (in: With All God’s People, p. 21, 22)

From Anonymous:

Father God, Our Savior and King,

We come to You in despair over the evil being done to our Middle East Christian brothers and sisters. We ask that You would put Your hand of protection upon them and that You would sustain them as You did the Israelites in the desert. Lord, cause our brothers and sisters to cry out to You for help and show them the peace that only You can give in answer to their needs. In their darkest moments, Lord, keep them, strengthen them, and comfort them. When they despair that no one is coming to help them, Lord, reveal Your glory and restore their souls.

We ask you these things in the blessed name of Your precious son, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Erdogan just won big in Turkey, didn’t he? So he’s feeling tough right now. He and Iran and their “Alliance of Civilizations” can chug right along.

Well, to say he’s won is rather like saying our Presidents actually win an election...let’s just say “appointed” might be a better term the way nations now install leaders.

While we’re all keeping a watchful eye on the ME it’s important that also be on Turkey....the whole ground is shaking over there but eventually it will “settle”.....I have my own guess who is going to come out on top, if not now later. And it won’t be good for any.

I think Salvation there does come a time when we need to pray God bring them out of the ME...things are not going to get any better there as it’s shaping up and with the majority Muslims who will support this Caliphat.....ISIS is saying Jordon’s next...they are on a roll and so far none are stopping them.

I think it’s time we ask the Lord to help Christians get out of the ME, those who can, and provide the means for them to do so.

Now is a good time for all Americans and American Armed Forces to get out. Send in the helicopters. Now.

This guy has 2000 crack troops in Iraq: General Qassim Soleimani. Remember that name. He is the head of Al Quds, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. He is the most powerful man in the middle east now. He installed Maliki, a fellow Shiite, as Prime Minister - the same Maliki who started a Coup today. Soleimani and Iran will not let Maliki and Iraq fall to ISIS Sunni forces. Soleimani can care less about Iraqi elections. He personally pays for his Al Quds forces with Iraqi oil from Maliki. That is the deal. He has too much at stake. And he has serious weaponry, not tactical Tundra pick ups for butchers with Ak 47s like ISIS. The Iranian Al Quds will wipe out ISIS and anyone opposed to Iran, inside Iraq. Whats next? That’s whats next.

don’t miss his kids. every time I see his face I can hear the tree branch mulching machine. Shooting is more humane. Possibly beheading is more humane.

Yes, they were bad guys, the Arab world is full of them....But that’s the way it’s always been there, and it’s naive to think we could have changed it, without them ditching Islam for good.

I believe you are correct, Iran is waiting in the wings. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them flood into the Shia southeast as far as Baghdad (taking control of Shia pilgrim cities Najaf and Karbala) and then make a (temporary) peace with ISIS, allowing ISIS to expand elsewhere and Iran to consolidate, after which may come the Great Shia-Sunni Conflagration.

Actually, there was a Kurdish candidate for President in the recent Turkish election. Moreover, Turkey favors a stable Kurdish neighbor compared to a crazy Iraqi neighbor.

Not missing Sadam but his Hussein butt in Baghdad was far better than the Hussein arse in DC

Absolutely true! We took out a bad dictator thug in 2003, and now we have a 1000x satanic evil RAT bastard muslim pig named barack Hussein obama. We have a muslim traitor in the WH only 7 years after a terrorist attack on 9-11. Unbelieveable!
